Introduction
The Apple iPod is a portable jukebox that is a bit bigger than a credit card in length and width.
It comes with the iTunes software you need to install on your PC or Mac to be able to use it which allows you to quickly choose which songs to upload to your iPod and it is incredibly easy to create playlists. It also allows you to easily edit the met tags of your mp3 files which will ensure your iPod's browse function will correctly place everything where it should be.
The browse function is very extensive, allowing you to search by Artist, Albums, All songs, Genres and composers. So it preety much auto creates all the play lists you will want though on top of all that you can make your own.
The 20GB version also comes with a protective case, wired control (which you can connect between the headphones and iPod itself), Docking station, firewire to docking station cable, mains adapter, and instruction booklets.
This version of the iPod (unlike the iPod mini) employs an incredible touch senstive control system, there are no actual buttons but a really intuitive, touch sensitive system which enhances the iPods usability infinately!
Extra features:
Games, including parachute, bricks, solitaire, and music quiz (which uses the music in your iPod to create a ''guess the song'' quiz!).
Contacts, you can transfer your contacts over from microsoft outlook or similar programs.
Sleep Timer, you can set the ipod to turn of in 15, 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes which will preserve your battery after you fall asleep!
Alarm clock, you can choose a playlist that will start playing at any chosen time.
Calendar, you can transfer over calendar appointments from your PC/Mac.
Notes, you can transfer notes over from your PC or Mac.
Loads of settings and customisable main menu.
High defintion screen with backlight.
Good Points
The fact that there are two many features to list here, all of which are very useful,
Great sound quality,
Easy to use software,
Wealth of options in terms of playlisting,
Touch senstive controls are incredible,
Very very very stylish.
Can plug into an auxiliary input of any Stereo/CD player turning it into an actual jukebox!
Shuffle and repeat options.
Everything I mentioned in the introduction!
Bad Points
Bizarrely there is no stop button, but there is a pause which effectively does the same thing so this is not really a weakness.
Battery life, at 8 hours, could be a little longer but not an issue unless you often take long road trips or flights.
The Verdict
If you have loads of cds you want to listen to on the move get this now, whether its a large CD collection or an MP3 collection, this is the only way to go, this or any of the other iPods that is. There is no difference between this model or the 10mb, 15mb 30mb or 40mb models apart from their capacity (and price). Be careful that the iPod mini is a slightly different product, its physically smaller, no touch sensitive controls, and much less capacity.
