Introduction
This is science fiction at its purest and most entertaining, forget wishy washy matrix, bladerunner and robocop, this is a much better robot film, based on a novel and starring none other than Will Smith.
Good Points
Will Smith is a great lead role and probably not who you would expect to see in a film like this. Sci fi films usually have a white leading actor or actress. Will smith delievers some ocassional great sarcastic one liners keeping you humoured in what is otherwise a serious and very intruging film.
Great story line, set in future Chicago, about a society within which some possess intelligent robots used as either companions, aids or servants. Some robots also work as waiters and do other jobs that most humans would rather not do. Each robot is programmed with 3 laws. Which are:
1/ No robot must ever harm a human beings life.
2/ A robot must save the life of a human being if ever it becomes endangered. As long as this does not break the first law.
3/ A robot must look after its own existence but only if it does not interfere with the first two laws.
This is what is called '3 laws safe'.
This film is intriguing, believable, fascinating, visually entertaining as well as scary and emotionally packed for a roller coaster look of a possible future.
Bad Points
Few weaknesses except maybe some background on the history of the robots may have been useful.
Some more explosions would also have been nice.
The Verdict
A good emotional action packed sci- fi about a future where robots co habit with people for the betterment of society. However Will smith (lead role) has always been suspicious of robotical beings.. luckily!
