Introduction
Basically, it seems that everyone is moaning on this site should be moaning about the actual manufacturer of the product and not the retailer... If you have bought a TV which was labelled ''Currys'' and sold exclusively in Currys then I could understand the comments - otherwise it sounds like people should wise up and expect to get what you pay for.
You wouldn't buy a £200 Lada Riva and expect it to perform the same as a £50,000 Mercedes CLK would you - NO.! So why do you expect a cheap TV to perform the same as a more expensive one.?
If you read the full terms and conditions of extended warranties bought from these places you'd know what you are and are not covered for as it's there in black and white. Most things like pixels missing and images burnt onto your TV screen are excluded for the reason that the manufacturer hasn't spent enough resource on their TV screen technology. The extended warranty can't be held responsible for the lack of investment in technology by a manufacturer.!
There's also the point that if you're not completely happy with the way the TV is performing, contact the manufacturer directly and see if they'll replace it under the Sale of Goods Act (i.e. not fit for purpose)
The Verdict
Wise up. Extended warranties are a good back-up for things in your home. Try asking your house insurance provider if they'll come to your home to look at/repair your TV if it breaks down - I don't think you'll like the answer you'll get...
Even if they would (as some policies do) you'll pay an excess and have increased fees the next year.!
