Introduction
The 6th Zep album, from 1975. This is the first and only double album they produced and contains 15 songs across two discs. Highly aclaimed massive selling very highly regarded everywhere album!
The albums 2 discs have a 2 very distinct purposes. The first disc is essentially the hard rocking riff based disc that could have been released on its own as a Zep album. Includes such gems as ''The Rover'', ''Houses of the Holy'', and the immense ''Kashmir''.
The second disc on the other hand offers a far more diverse range of songs. The 9 on offer include the exemplary ''Ten Years Gone'', a contemporary rock balad of the time thats still as relevant today. Songs such as ''In The Light'' showcase the mighty Zep's different approach to songwriting and the disc also has plenty of acoustic offerings. ''Bron Yr'' highlights Page's accomplished acoustic side and songs such as ''Black Country Woman'' reveal a band content at the height of their career.
The album then closes with the incendiary riff based rock track ''Sick Again''
Good Points
Exemplary musicianship and song writing from all quarters.
This album truly encapsulates all facets of the band displaying everything from hard rock to delecate folk.
Bad Points
Does take a few listens to take in all the tracks due to the fact there's fifteen of them but the fact that its across two discs helps to diffuse this problem.
The Verdict
There's honestly not one track I skip when listening to this epic album - Critics can never decide which is Zeppelin's finest offering, the fourth album or this one?
I can't decide either but one thing I am certain about is this albums brilliance from one track to the next.
A great starting point for any budding fan and an essential album for anyone who's even remotely interested in classic rock.
