Introduction
Having used Miller&Carter restraurants before, pulled in for a lunch time meal with mother-in-law Good Points
Decor
atmosphere
Some food tasted excellent - for made me ill later Bad Points
Lucky mother-in-law enjoyed her started because she could not eat much of her dinner;
the fries were overcooked and hard
the smokey chicken was so tuff we took it home for the dog and he refused to eat it.
I had noticed, on a quite lunchtime, that two or three tables sent the food back and I thought about it myself; it was not piping hot but it tasted ok so I left it. It was only an hour or so before the bad stomach started, at very regular intervals for two-three days.
Also if you want more than one drink you had better order them very early, we asked for another round while eating a starters and had to remind them again when they brought up the main course.
Last but not least, the toliets; ok I may be spoit by my local Miller&Carter (Ilford) which spotless, very attrative. Harlow - no paper towel, very little soap and scruffy The Verdict
It has been three days and the stomach it iffy, so no I will not go back.

SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
had to wait 10 mins to be seated...(not busy time)
once seated we could see our drinks left on the bar but it took over 10 mins for the poor barman to bring them to us because the waitress was not.
the main course was ok but waited over 20 mins with empty plates in front of us whilst the couple next to us were served 3 times by the same waitress. after having our plates cleared we were offered desserts. we thought, hey why not were here now, however, 10 mins to actuaaly bring over the menu and after half an hour of waiting to be served again we gave up and walked out. The Verdict
WOULD NOT GO BACK WOULD NOT RECCOMMEND AND WILL SLATE THAT PLACE!!
not happy, i felt discriminated against because we were a young couple that were shoved in the corner. The quickest we were served was when they wanted our money!

We have lived near this pub for several years and are overjoyed by the recent transformation into
a Miller & Carter. We like it so much we usually try & eat there a couple of times a month and have never had a bad meal or experience in all that time. We vary the times we attend, we go as a couple, we take our children, we meet friends and family to eat there - all in all we believe we've given it a good road test and would definitely recommend it to anyone. The staff are excellent in general, very knowledgeable about the food and drink and also about the company history. The Menu is a ''one page'' affair which although limited caters for most tastes. The food is the real key - we have never experienced anything less than fantastic quality, fresh, honestly cooked food to die for.
Congratulations to the team at the Gatekeeper, due to you we've gone out of our way to visit other branches of the rapidly growing M&C chain (Camelot @ Romford & Dick Turpin @ Ilford) and although we've enjoyed the experience we still think your complete package and service are top of the class.
Good Points

Introduction
On Thursday 9th August 2007 during a brief recent visit to UK from Spain,my wife and I were out walking when we came across ''The Miller & Carter'' Steak House in Harlow.
First of all I must complement the waitress and indeed the chef because both the service and the food was outstanding. However the whole experience was spoilt by the attitude of whom I assume was the restaurant manager. I had paid the bill and rewarded the staff in the appropriate manner and asked if they would call us a cab as I didn't have my mobile phone with me. The young waitress returned to the table and informed us that she had been told that all phones were out of order, therefore it would not be possible to call us a cab. Now if it had been 1967 rather than 2007 I might have accepted that excuse. I explained the situation to the waitresss regarding the fact that we were strangers to the area and she immediately asked a colleague if she could use her mobile. To that young lady MANY THANKS - to the restaurant manager (who was unavailble before the cab arrived) FIND A BETTER EXCUSE IN FUTURE - Your staff have a better understanding of customer care than you. Good Points
WAITRESS - Sorry have forgotten your name

Was not impressed when it was the Gatekeeper. Less impressed now. Good Points
Comfortable, with nice decor. Bad Points
I ordered Chicken Caesar salad. The plate was decorated with large inedible lettuce leaves, in the middle was a bit of shredded lettuce, caesar sauce and some over cooked dried up chicken breast. Oh and a couple of croutons. For £9 I expected a bit more. At least the Gatekeeper served a decent caesar salad. My friend ordered bang bang chicken. It was disgusting and had big chunks of skin in it. She couldn't eat it and could taste it for the rest of the day. The chicken tasted really weird. Her meal was taken off the bill. The Verdict
Would not go there again.

Turned up for Bank Holiday Monday lunch expecting The Gatekeeper and was pleasantly surprised by our first M&C experience.
We had the American Burger and the fish of the day which was Breaded Tuna Steak with roasted vegetables. No starters or deserts this time, but we'll definately be back to try more. Good Points
Good atmosphere, decore, friendly well-spoken staff, nice well presented food and all at a very reasonable price.
Bad Points
Being really picky but the cutlery, though clean, had drying marks on that could have easily been wiped before laying the table. Ditto for glasses...and condiments. The Verdict
Recommended on what we had this time.

good welcome staff friendly, very smart inside Good Points
Good food, good look, good place to eat. Bad Points
The Verdict
Highly recommended, and who ever wrote the previous review needs to go back to eating in crappy pub resturants what have no atmosphere are to bright and full of smoke and idiots.
the light in the resturant set a nice environment which makes you feel your not sitting on top of other parties like some resturants do.

Good welcome. Lovely waitress Bad Points
Partner's steak not bad. My ''bang bang chicken'' as though it had been prepared 12 hours ago. Salad wilting, freezing cold and chicken fatty and scrappy. Unable to eat. Taken off bill without any problem.
Partner's espresso just a small cup of filter coffee. My cappucino not recognisable as such. Didn't want to upset waitress any more so just left.
So dark - ''atmosphere?'' - almost unable to see. The Verdict
Wouldn't bother again.
