Harlow Mill Beefeater, Old Harlow

The family-friendly restaurant has recently been refurbished and has a new menu - although all the favourites are still there.

Pros: The interior is quite traditional with wooden beams , wooden tables and has leather booths which create a cosy atmosphere. The staff are friendly. Prices are reasonable for the quality of food. They have very nice potatoe skins with salsa and sour cream. Most of their starters are the best cooked food there. I suggest having a couple of starters for your main course! You can get nectar reward points for eating there! All the family are welcome, with special kids menus there is something for everyone.

cons: Not the best steak I've had in my life and they don't have fish and chips anymore. (Considering my Grandad will only eat fish and chips this traditional restaurant wouldn't suit him!). The lighting could be a little better - we sat in the 'conservatory' and I was struggling to read the menu because it was so gloomy (i'm only 20, but with glasses!). In busy periods the staff are rushed off their feet and sometimes there can be a wait for the food. Although this is expected in a busy restaurant.

conclusion: A nice meal offered in relaxing surroundings. I would eat there again and recommend the potato skins to others but I'm not sure I'd recommend all the food!
