The Char Bar - Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth

The Char Bar lets you cook (most of) your own food. It you want a little bit of a difference, and not feeling lazy, you'll enjoy this.

Pros: Its very entertaining cooking your food in the middle of the table. My boyfriend always managed to create a lot of flames when cooking his burger. Friendly staff who explain how to cook your food and regularly come back to see how your getting on. The potato skins with sour cream are excellent - you even get half a baguette with the starter to cook on the grill.

cons: Sometimes it can be a bit smokey - usually from people burning their food, although there are extractor fans above each table. We paid around ?45 for a meal for two, which was a little expensive considering we didn't have dessert or any alcohol.

conclusion: If you want to go somewhere different I suggest that you go here. Yes the prices are a little above average but you are paying for the unusual experience which you will be hard pressed to find anywhere else. I would definetly recommend this restaurant to a friend! (oh and go back myself soon).
