Introduction
I swapped to Yasmin a week ago as was get nausea a couple of days before my period when on Mercilon. I have found that I have nausea with most pills (especially Dianette) so was originally given Mercilon as it was low dose. Spoke to a pharmasist today who thinks that it is the Oestrogen levels that make me feel sick as they are higher in Yasmin. So am going back to Mercilon
Good Points
Nothing!
Bad Points
Feel very dizzy and nauseous
constant stomach pain
lack of appetite!
The Verdict
Not a good one for people who suffer from the effects of Oestrogen

Introduction
My 16 year old daughter was prescribed this to deal with poly cystic ovaries. Her whole demeanor has changed: she is stressed, emotional, weepy and very moody. She has lost loads of weight and is now anorexic, her weight now having dropped to 42 kilos.
A friend suggested the problem might be this pill, as she stopped taking it when it suppressed her appetite. Having read all the reviews here I have finally put 2 and 2 together. I can see that the eating problems started when my daughter began taking this pill, and the mood swings and weepiness have made it even more difficult to deal with, so I will be trying to get her off it asap. She, however, doesn't want to stop it, as her skin has cleared.
Good Points
Clears acne
Bad Points
Unwanted weight loss (particularly dangerous in teenagers)
Mood swings
Stress
Depression
Paranoia
The Verdict
If I get her off this pill and we find it WAS the cause of her anorexia -- what more can I say? It should not be prescribed for young people, and I suspect it should be VERY carefully monitored in everyone using it, as it seems to affect different people in very different ways.

Introduction
I started taking it 3 weeks 4 days ago as I have been with my parter for a year and moved in so it made sence. I have not yet had a period (took last pill before break 5 days ago) but ahve today got period pain ... I havent been on a pill in a long long time and was hoping that I would be relieved of the pains again. I was on femodene for 4 years then changed to Mycrogynon for 7, I have a 3 (nearly 4) year break and as I was diagnosed with PCOS just after coming off the microgynon and am now 31 it was suggested this would be the best thing.
Good Points
So far so good. I can remember to take pills
Early days so no worries about not coming on yet ... despite not coming on it is my 1st 7 day break.
Bad Points
The following may be NOTHING to do with the medication and just coninsidental.

Bad headache, dizzyness, sicky feeling day 2, was sent home from work and felt like crap for 12 hours then was fine.

Day 3 HUGE spot on nipple ... taken 3 weeks to go properly ... seeing doc about it next week just in case.

1st day without taking pill on 7 day break I felt just out of sorts, low and morose
The Verdict
I will have to give it longer to make my mind up as I said I am not sure if the bad points are really bad points with the medication and its effects on me or coinsidental. I will discuss the above with the doctor if I see a pattern appear over the next month. I have a review after month 3 but will go back early if i have concerns.

Introduction
I am 37 and was prescribed Yasmin to clear up my acne and balance my hormones. About 3 days in I was throwing up, very shitty, short wicked, emotional and would love to have blamed the BF for most of that but I am definate this pill had alot to do with that. I had jumped onto this site to get some feedback and everyone sounded just like me!!! Meanwhile, my skin cleared, my boobs were unreal and a full C from a struggling B/C. They looked like I was 16 again. Over the next 2 months I increasingly got worse although I tried my hardest to be aware of and control my moodiness...it wore me out. My weight dropped to 47 from 50 and I looked sick. Then by the end my stomach was rumbling and my stools were always a pale yellow, i was always nauseous, I was not absorbing any nutrition. I went off after much procrastination over my great new set of norks but nothing was worth how I felt. Now on Diane, so far so good, it's been 2 months but no more big boobies:(. I have recently been taking CoQ10, my mood has lifted alot and I feel heaps better. That stuff is really good. Good luck all and next life I am coming back with a pair of nuts!!! xx
Good Points
Bigger Boobs!!! They were fantastic!!!
Clear skin, no more acne and sebaceous white lumpy jawline.
Did I mention the great TITS I had?? lol!!
Bad Points
Geez, what didn't I have....
Tender breasts, nausia, vomiting, weight loss, depression, lethargy, very irritable, moods all over the place, sensitive, emptyness, lonely, upset stomach, light coloured stools, tired...new day, new symptoms but very, very bad. I miss my titty's.
The Verdict
Try it if you want, some it looks like it works for. Get off if it doesn't, life is too short to feel like crap. Good luck girls.

Introduction
I started taking Yasmin 2 years ago and it is no understatment that they have been the worst two years of my life. At first I started getting moody and my character completely changed. After about 12 months I started to become very ill, I discovered this was due to very severe food allegies. I was allergic to wheat, gluten, milk, sugar, all dairy, and starch. This obviously made my life difficult, it also didn't help that I was becoming paranoid and had to be treated for depression. I was vomiting everyday and was generally incredibly low. It was then suggested to me that I came off the Yasmin. I did this a month ago. My food allegies have disappered, my moods are a lot better and finally I feel that my life is manageable. I have now got my life back and the relationships with my family and partner have now got a chance to get better from the damage caused by my state of mind.
Good Points
None.
Bad Points

Nausea

Introduction
I am 2 days away from the 1st 7day break for the "period" (actually withdrawl from pill - v normal)
So, been on it nearly a month. I was on IUD coil and kept getting urinary tract infections with it, so ended up hating the coil. Aanyway, so far, so good. Its all going well and I have been warned about the body's need to ajust and adapt the 1st 2/3months. Since approaching the first 7day break I have started to get a tiny bit of nausea (about 1/2days ago it started) and very mild spotting, but I've been warned of this, so am ok with it. The nausea is not enough to actually make me stop and feel sick - more of a very slight queezyness that is eased from a little rest or lie down or sit down. (O:
I had problems with other pills yrs ago, so was quite scared about starting a pill. but this has been a "so far so good" situation....
Good Points
So far....
-No weight gain (lost a bit and not trying)
-No more coil!! YEY!
-No mood swings, in fact am feeling quite a lot more chipper in myself - feel more capable (could this be this pill??)
-No interruptions. (O;
-slightly increased sex drive (it seems)
-good clear skin (despite the fact I've been abusing it just a little - ie;a couple of nights, not cleaned foundation off)
-Peace of mind, nice n simple.
Bad Points
Well, again, so far....
-Very very slight feeling of nausea in this first months end - I didn't have this until 2 days ago btw.
-Very very slight spotting - again, in the last 2 days appraoching end of first months pack.
-Oh yeah, I got thrush 2 days ago too, but this may well have been due to some enthusiastic sex! lol. and its not bad, is clearing right up.(May not even be down to yasmin, so bear that in mind)
The Verdict
I am happy so far with yasmin, considering what can go wrong with these things I am relieved. I am also pretty sure that after my body has adapted to it over the next couple months I don't think I will get the spotting or nausea thing anymore.
Also, I have needed to pee a bit more than normal, but not irritatingly so - and I think this is because yasmin has less/more sodium?? hence the no bloating thing - check this tho.(I'm recalling a vague recollection of half knowledge) So I reckon I can correct the balance with some well placed vitamins/minerals and water/fluids.
I'll do another review when its established.
I am happy with this one.
It is good to see what others have to say about it. Noone should say DONT ever take this pill or that this is the ONLY pill to take, we are all different in what our bodies accept and respond to. Some will love this pill, others will need to keep searching it seems.

I moved to the UK 12 months ago, bringining with me a short supply of Monofeme (NZ only brand) which I'd been on for 6 years. I was then on microgynon for 5 months which caused me migranes. I'm now on Yasmin.
Good Points
Cleared up my skin (not that it was really that bad to start with)
Weight lost = 2.5kgs in 10 days.
Bad Points
None so far
The Verdict
Overall I think each woman and the contraception that they use is going to work differntly. You just need to find the one that suits you. I was suprised and scared after reading some of these reviews, but I gave it a go, and I'm happy enough on it now.

I've been on Yasmin for about 2 years, and while I get the typical occasional mood swings, bloating etc I think these symptoms are more attributed to being human than blaming them on a pill.
Good Points
Clear skin
No weight gain
Bad Points
The Verdict
I am very happy with this pill. I don't think people should state 'do not try this pill' in any case, as they are all safe enough to have medical licences, however just try it (or any other) for a few months and see how you get on.

My doctor suggested I should try a new pill called Yasmin a year ago as I wanted a change from the pill I was currently using, Cilest. My doctor informed me that it was very popular as you would not gain weight and had minimal side effects...

Good Points
Bad Points
Emotional
Depressed
No sex drive
Fatigue
Bloatness

The Verdict
My Mum had been telling me I had changed as soon as I started to take Yasmin but I made excuses thinking that I was just going through a bad patch. I can only relate my emotional state to how I felt growing up in my early teens, but with alot more tears!! I would start crying in public places, on the bus, train, in the street?! - It was my birthday last month but my period was due so I decided to take two packs in a row so that I would have a pmt free birthday but my plan back fired & I was a complete emotional wreck the whole time!! I spent the whole day crying, I was unstopable. After, during my 7 day break I noticed I felt so much happier & my sex drive was back! Three days into starting another pack I felt crappy & teary again so I decided to find out info on Yasmin. What I found was shocking - Two women have died due to taking this pill as a result of DVT, along with 40 other cases of DVT. It has been banned in various countries, including Scotland as they dont know the extent of the side effects and state that anyone taking this pill is being treated like a guinea pig.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PILL!
I stopped taking Yasmin 2 weeks ago & feel alot better for it! That dark cloud has gone & I feel alot happier!

Introduction
I requested this brand of pill from my doctor after it had been highly recommended to me by a friend. After 11 days I have taken myself off it due to the extremem side effects I have suffered (and am still suffering)
Good Points
It's a method of contraception?
Bad Points
Extremely bad mood swings
Anxiety attacks (3 in one day)
Irrational thoughts
Paranoia
Tears/tantrums
Suicidal thoughts
Insomnia
Swollen painful breasts
Continous period for 11 days
Constant need to go to the toilet
The Verdict
I started experiencing severe mood swings on approximately day 8 of this packet and when the paranoia, anxiety attacks, irrational/sucidial thoughts started I realiased something was seroiusly wrong.... I normally experience these feelings before my preiod not after! (joke) for the first time in a long time my life is not stressful, quite the opposite, so i could not justify why I was feeling this way. To say I felt like i was loosing my mind is a complete understatement. After researching the pill and its side effects online I came across this site, what a relief to discover that other people were experiencing similar side effects! I came off the pill immediately and saw my doctor this morning. Frustratingly I have to wait another month before starting with a different brand. In my experience, the bad side effects of this pill becoome apparent quite quickly so if you do experience anything that I have described, i would suggest you see your doctor and get it changed. In hindsight I think this pill has never agreed with me, I was on it a couple of years ago, but I was in a stressful job and a temptrous relationship, so I proably never equated my mood swings and general bad behaviour to the pill just my lifestyle, now however my life could not be more different and I have turned from a calm rational person to a psychopath in just a few days. The reveiews on this site make me think that Yasmin is like marmite, you either love it or you hate it! And I hate it.

I'm 25 and have been on the pill since i was 15. For the past 6 years i was on dianette and this pill really worked for me. I was 7st 10 constantly throughout and a size 8. Ate really good and nothing ever changed. Then the doctor changed me to the Yasmin pill in February this year for whatever reason and since then my body has changed so much. I pee loads in the night, never did this before. I feel low in myself which is really unusual because i'm known for being such a little nutter. And most importantly i dont feel sexy nor did i want it anymore.
Good Points
Is there any????

1. Skin ok, still have a few spots but is ok.
2. Boobs are bigger, but that might be due to the weight gain.
Bad Points

1. No sex drive. YES BEST CONTRACEPTIVE PILL EVER!!!!! Just for that reason.
2. Weight gain excessive!!! in only a few months
3. Feeling Hungry constantly.
4. Never feeling full. can eat and eat (i actually thought there was something wrong with me)
5. Low self esteem.
6. Not feeling sexy.
7. Not wanting sex.
8. Dont feel happy within myself anymore.
9. Bloated.

I have ben on Yasmin for 4 months. At the moment I am suffering very bad headaches, stress, mood swings and am constantly crying. I thought I was just having a bad time in my personal and work life which is why I was feeling like this but after speaking to a friend and reading these reviews I think this pill may be a huge factor. I have gradually been feeling these syptoms and they have been getting worse over the last few months. I have even lost a long term relationship due to my mood swings and irrational behaviour, apparently I was too hard work and my personality changed too much. I am seriously wondering if Yasmin may be the cause. Am coming off it as from NOW to see if I can return to my old self.

Introduction
I have been on Yasmin for many years it must be at least 5. I never had any problems with it at first but 2 years ago I started to spot between periods occasionally and became sun sensitive coming out in large red blotches whilst on holiday. More recently I have felt incredibly tired, dizzy and breathless. Really cannot be bothered to do anything and have no interest in doing anything. I am dizzy most of the time, very depressed, anxious and argumentative. I had blood tests last year for the dizziness but no problem could be found so I just live with it. In the past few months I have gained 8lbs at least and I now crave foods constantly and my mood swings are absolutely awful. I now seem to be on a permanent period and have an appointment with my doctor next week. Since reading the reviews on this site I am not taking anymore of these pills. I did not think my pill could cause me all of the problems I am having and whilst it has not been proven that this pill is causing my problems it seems very suspicious that a lot of my symptoms are the same as a lot of the reviews here. I am going to take a break from it. I just want to feel well again
Good Points
Easy to take.
I have nice skin

Coming off the pill. Did not associate most of my symptoms to the pill other than the weight gain and sore breasts, but now I can see I am not just going nuts, its the hormones in Yasmin that just dont do it for me. I agree that doctors should tell you more about a specific pill rather than just give you one. If they only knew how psycho it all makes you feel!

I was recommended by a GP as the newest pill that had less of side effects and more bonuses. I had taken it for 1 year, this was a year ago and I was irritable and moody. I was going out a lot and thought it was just my lack of sleep and partying too much. But recently I have settled down and two weeks ago I started taking Yasmin again. This week I have noticed that I am way too irritable, stessed, depressed and crying over everyday things I would normally be dealing with perfectly. I have no urge to exercise or have sex. I walk every weekday on my treadmill for 1hour and enjoy being with my partner. I would not recommend Yasmin to anyone that experience any of these side effects, there are other pills out there and I plan to go back on my old pill Norynl.

I know where I am on this pill and I have tried a few. I know everyone is different and it's often a case of trial and error but I swear by Yasmin :)

Introduction
I'm on to my 3rd packet of yasmin, and since starting just over 2 months ago ive become a different person. I've become completely depressed not even slightly, I've actually never felt so low! My family friends and especially my boyfriend have noticed a completely change in my personality, at first I put it down to exam stress, but my friend, also on yasmin, has had many of the same problems. Feeling of constant doom, severe depression, headaches, lack of interest in everything!, paranoia, dizzy spells, sickness and it hasn't even shortened my periods and i still suffer from cramps.
Good Points
I don't think I've found any!
Bad Points
depression and change of personlity must be the worst ones.
however the others are just as bad.
The Verdict
I wouldn't recommend this tablet for anyone, I've actually warned people against it. I think GP's should actually give you as a patient a better understanding of what side effects could entail. If I had known what would happen I would have definately have asked for a different tablet.

I have been on Yasmin for over a year now. I too was prescribed Dianette to dispose of spots and was told this was a shoter term pill as could cause problems with clotting etc so being paranoid after my 1st 6 months I came off it.

I was then prescribed yasmin and have had no problems.
Good Points
High sex drive
Light periods
Less spots
No cramp
Bad Points
Weight gain
Sore back occasionally
Terrifyingly painful headaches!!!!
The Verdict
I would recommend yasmin as an oral contraceptive as I have not had many problems other than the head aches - but this could be a number of things in ym day to day life!!!

I am 43 years old and have been on various OCPs throughout my life. In my late thirties I started with mild acne so my GP prescribed Dianette. This worked well for quite a few years although my periods were still heavy and painful. Over the last few months I started to have breast pain for a good 2 weeks of my cycle and the acne came back. My GP then prescribed me Yasmin and I have been taking that for 3 months.
Good Points
No breast pain
Much lighter, shorter, less painful periods
No weight gain
No babies!
Acne now down to a couple of spots that come and go throughout my cycle
No loss of interest in sex

Bad Points
Some mild headaches mid month (which may be caused by other factors anyway)
Nothing else that I can think of.
The Verdict
I am really pleased with how Yasmin has worked for me. I was hesitant about trying it after reading some of the reviews but am glad I did as I feel much better on it that I did Dianette. Like everything in life, you have to try something to see if it works for you. If it doesn't, stop it and try something else.

I'm 16 and am in a serious and stable relationship. I decided to go on the pill about 6 months ago and my GP suggested Microgynon 30. This gave me constant, inconvinient spotting so i asked if i could change pills. My GP then suggested Yasmin which has stopped the spotting but made me severely depressed, and i've only been taking it for 3 weeks.
Good Points
Stops you getting pregnant.
Easier than using a condom.
Doesn't cause spotting.
Bad Points
Gives SEVERE depression.
Huge mood swings.
Short-tempered-ness.
The Verdict
Horrible pill. I'm hoping to go to my GP next week and change pills, yet again, or get off Yasmin for a bit. I'd much rather have to buy and use condoms than be depressed and snappy at my boyfriend and family.
I DO NOT SUGGEST IT.

Introduction
I have been taking Yasmin for 3 1/2 years. About four years prior, I had been taking Marvelon, but came off it because of the side effects. My GP said that Yasmin had a reputation for minimal side effects.

Good Points
At first I thought it was great. However, in hindsight, I think I convinced myself that the anxiety and depression I was suffering was due to other things.

Bad Points
About a year after starting Yasmin, my GP prescribed anti depressants, which I decided not to take. I always thought of myself as a happy person, with a positive attitude and could not imagine what was happening to me. I felt a mess.

Then the headaches started! OH MY WORD! Yasmin became like a headache tablet! I would stop taking it for the break week and be pretty much dependent on paracetemol, pain killers, anything to get me through the week!
The Verdict
I have decided I cannot spend a quarter of my life feeling like I've been hit by a train! Side effects have included:
Depression
Weight gain
Hair loss
Loss of sex drive (It works so well as a contraceptive!)
Anxiety
Paranoia
Headaches
Back ache.

Reading these reviews has been a real eye opener

Am 17, now in a serious and stable relationship and decided to go on the pill. My GP started me off on microgynon 30. The effects of this pill were so severe i had to come off within a week. Have severe PMT anyway but this was just constant PMT - i was so emotional, aggressive etc.. i was an animal. Went back to my GP and she put me on Yasmin. Haven't yet finished my first pack - first week seemed ok but now onto my second week and things are not looking too good!
Good Points
Stops you from being pregnant.
Easier than using condoms.
Bad Points
Very tired.
Emotional.
Lack of enthusiasm to do anything.
Loss of interest in most things - lazy.
Wanting to be on my own alot.
I think a drop in my sex drive.
A stronger desire to eat but been strong so no weight gain as of yet.
Just general feeling very low and totally not myself.
The Verdict
Hate using a pill altogether but know it has to be done to prevent pregnancy. Simply a matter of trial and error but do believe that if a pill does give you side effects like the ones mentioned above then it surely it does not agree with your body full stop therefore is not a good thing! Will stick with it for another week or so but these pills just change everything about me! HOWEVER, MUCH BETTER THAN THE MICROGYNON 30.

It's a bit early to tell but so far:

No weight gain, have probably lost maybe like half a stone.
Period pain reduced.
Haven't had cravings for food or anything.
Has made me a bit more fearless!
Bad Points
Spotting - it's not painful or anything just annoying! But apparently that settles down after a few months.

Am not sure if my weird emotions are down to the pill or not.

Hair a bit greasy, but I have naturally fine hair so may just be that.

A bit tired.

Reading these reviews has been the GREATEST relief! Until now I thought I was going crazy! I was given this pill 4 months ago after being on Dianette for 6 years. The reason I was given it was to lower my blood pressure. The first two months were fine. These past two months have been hell. I am constantly crying, I’m always anxious and have been suffering from panic attacks. I have also had stupid thoughts of dying (not suicidal). I’m usually a really happy person but these two months have been horrible! I’m going back to my doctor tomorrow and I will never take these ever again!

This is the fourth contraceptive pill I tried. At first it seemed ok, my periods were pretty average, no paticular mood swings or other side effects. However, I had been suffering from headaches and slight nausea, which took my about 3 months or so to realise that this occurred in my 7 pill-free days. I went back to the doctors and they advised that I just ran 3 packs together at a time, as they would reduce the number of pill-free days i had, as the decrease in hormone levels was causing my headaches. Running 2 packs together didn't seem to cause a problem, but by the third pack i was constantly bleeding, so had to change yet again. As had previously suffered from a migraine that had affected my speech (wasn't on Yasmin at the time), the doctors thought it best to put me on the mini pill and it was downhill from there!!
Good Points
> No particuar mood swings
> No weight gain
> Periods normal
Bad Points
> Headaches and nausea on pill free days

Been on Yasmin for 8 months, after being on the Mirena coil for 8 yrs on and off. Loved the coil but had recurring simple cysts which then became abnormal. Mum died of ovarian cancer so was advised to come off the coil. Did not want to go on the pill as had previously put on weight with it, and did'nt like the fact that antibiotics affected it etc. Was told by GP to try Yasmin as had virtually no side effects.
Good Points
No pregnancy
Two day periods
Good skin
Bigger boobs (probably due to weight gain)
Bad Points
Nausea
Leg cramps
Low mood
Fatigue
Unable to motivate myself
Increase urine output, especially at night which i had not had before
Increased appetite
5 kilo weight gain which does not alter if i live on lettuce and go to the gym (when i can find the energy)
Headaches
Cried for the first month, GP said the pill had nothing to do with it
Unable to sleep properly at night, but unable to get myself out of bed in the morning
The Verdict
I have decided to come off the pill today after reading all of the reviews. I have done about three pregnancy tests in the last three months due to the nausea, i was convinced i was pregnant. I have been snappy with my children and my saintly partner, and have struggled to generate a good mood let alone maintain it. I was such a happy person before I started taking Yasmin, I really enjoyed my life. Within a couple of weeks of taking this pill I got really emotional and just thought it would fade off. I have basically become another person - I'm angry, aggressive, I pick fights with my boyfriend most days over nothing at all, our relationship is virtually ruined. I have been suicidal for months, feeling low and depressed, struggling to get out of bed and face my day. I found it hard to have fun. I have put on weight and basically completely changed. I have regularly thought that I have a mental problem and been on the verge of telling my doctor this. I cannot believe how much this pill affected my life.

I came off this pill roughly five weeks ago and the horrific symptoms have virtually gone now, i have lost half a stone and I am for the first time in a year feeling happy and starting to sort my life out again.
Good Points
Periods weren't as heavy.
Bad Points
Depression
Suicidal feelings
agression
anger
guilt
paranoia
Weight Gain
No self esteem
feeling unable to face the day

Been taking Yasmin for 3 months. My first pill was Dianette, then i went on Microgynon for 3 months which was hell. Then i had Mercilon which made me very emotional. I then had the Mirena coil fitted - i fainted a week after (i have never fainted before) and after 6 months i was in so much pain with Sciatica type pains i had it removed. I went back on Mercilon but after noticing again how emotional it made me i had a 4 month break, my acne came back and i started to become a lot more hairy so i went on Yasmin, and here i am 3 months later
Good Points
Bigger boobs - at least a cup size.
Less emotional
Not pregnant
Rapid reduction in facial and bodily hair growth.
Bad Points
Felt very nauseous for the first few weeks, would also go off certain foods and lose my appetite then other days could not stop eating.
Weight gain - approx 5 pounds that i can't shift.
Increased appetite - somedays i am constantly hungry.
Acne has got worse.
My first period was agony and i am due on my third and i am already in pain and extremely bloated i look pregnant!
I have become increasingly aggressive, irritable and irrational. I have been picking fights with my boyfriend for no rational reason i just want to argue - which is not in my nature, i feel very insecure and up and down all the time. My boyfriend said i have definitely become agressive since being on this pill.
I have also had occasional cramp in my toes.
My libido went completely during the 2nd month and has only just started to come back, however i am too dry to have sex most times which ha never happened to me before! I have also become extremely lethargic and can sleep for 3 hrs easily during the day which again i have never been able to do.
The Verdict
I think everyone reacts differently to the pill so it may work for you.
However, there definitely seems to be a trend with regards to the bad points.
I would consider your options carefully and always discuss them with a professional. I am going back to family planning tomorrow to discuss my options. Even though Mercilon made me emotional i think i'd rather take that over bein agressive and arguin with my boyfriend all the time, being unable to lose weight and my skin flaring up.

It may be good for you if you have poly cystic ovaries as it does help with facial hair.

I can't describe what a relief it is to read these reviews. I was on Yasmin for around a year and a half and have now been off it for 8 months a thank god! It is only from reading these reviews that I understand why I turned into a complete maniac during the time Yasmin was in my system. I honestly believed that I might have had some sort of psychological problem because I went from being a chilled out happy person to being completely irrational, angry, aggressive and unbelievably emotional -literally crying for no reason at times. Previously I was never really an emotional girl and hardly ever cried! I had constant mood swings and a consist feeling of anxiety. I never equated it to Yasmin because I had felt fine for the first six months and put it down to the fact I had lots of changes happening, but now I have no doubt that Yasmin was cause as after nearly a year of being off the pill I feel back to myself.
Good Points
No babies
Very slight improvement to skin
Bad Points
Psychological!!
Feelings of anxiety
Extreme mood swings
Unexplained feelings of sadness
Paronoia

Yasmin: -

I have been taking Yasmin for around 2 years now. It was great at first, as I used to suffer from really bad acne and after starting this Pill the acne cleared and my skin was far less oily. However, I began to become very irritable, and irrational, and EXTREMELY moody and fragile. My emotions were all over the place. At first I didn't attribute these feelings to the pill. However, after running out of supplies of Yasmom one month, i realised that i felt so much better, like an emotional weight had been lifted. I then re-started Yasmin after getting another supply, and both I and my bf noticed the difference, I turned into a 'horrible' person again.
Good Points
Bigger boobs (one cup size)
Regular, light, non-painful periods
No Weight-Gain
Clear skin
Bad Points
I became moody, agressive, anxious and very teary (not something my bf enjoyed)
Slight depression
More prone to bad headaches & migraines
Lethargic, (used to work out a lot but lost the drive and motivation to do so)
Cravings for 'bad' foods
The Verdict
For the first year, Yasmin acheived the desired effect, was a good contraceptive and cleared up my acne, which i am extremely grateful for. After 18 months the effects on my mood started to kick in and I cannot tolerate the effects (they are too strong)! I feel like an emotional wreck and I want my life back so I will not be re-starting Yasmin. However it has been overall effective up until this point. Everyone reacts differently to the various types of Pill, I advise speaking to your doctor to find the RIGHT one for YOU! Good luck.

I started taking Yasmin in about 2000 when it had just come out. At that time it came in two strengths 20mcg and 30mcg and I opted for the 20mcg - I think it is now available under the brand name Yaz but not Yasmin any more. At first it was fine.

Good Points
No weight gain, no bloating, sex drive was fine, no dryness etc. No mood swings or any problems whatsoever.
Bad Points
I did crave sweets and biscuits and would binge but that was nothing to what followed! After about 2 years I began to get terrible, and I mean terrible cramps in my right leg. It was like sciatica and I would writhe on the floor in agony for a couple of hours until I took some voltarol. This happened every 3 months and progressed to every 3 weeks. I was literally unable to straighten my back up and could not walk. The following day it was as if my spine wdn't support my weight and a couple of times I blacked out. When a homepath suggested I come off the pill to clear up some veruccaes I did. Coincidentally, these attacks stopped and never happened again. Rather dangerous I feel.
The Verdict
I do have back problems but never had anything like this before or since. Most weight gain will occur with pills at 30mcg ethinylestradiol.

Boobs seem 2 be bigger (can't really work that one out as i have actually lost weight everywhere else!)
Less moodswings

I had been on Yasmin for about 10 months. I have now been off it for about 2 months as i started to experience side affects after 8-9 months of taking it. The first 7 months while taking yasmin was fine, i had no side affects, only tender breasts, probaby because i went up a bra size from a 34A to 34B, which was a good thing. i diddnt notice any weight gain, and my periods were light. but after about 8, 9 months, i noticed that i was starting to feel more down with myself, i had gained 8 pounds and my appetite was increased more then ever. i had no sex drive, and no matter how healthy i ate the weight would not shift. i have only been off the pill about 2 months now because im going on holiday and i dont want to look bloated and feel like a heffer in a bikini, im hoping to drop a few pounds. yasmin is a good pill, it clears the skin, but makes it dry so mosturiser on face is needed frequently. my hair needed more regular washes, but after being on it long term it does cause slight weight gain for me which im not too happy about.
Good Points
Clear Skin
Increased breast size, which is best part.
more reliable then condoms
light periods
less painful periods
Bad Points
weight gain after long term use
headaches now and again
tiredness, lower sex drive
feelings of being fat,low self esteem
hassle to take every day
increased appetite
going to pee more frequently

The Verdict
i did enjoy taking yasmin but after so long, it shows its true colours.
i have been the same weight for years and had the exact same diet, but the weight gain came from nowhere, obviously the pill caused that.
since being off it for about 2 months i do feel a bit better in myself i mean i havent yet lost them pesky 8 pounds but im sure that when i do i will be back to my normal happy self, going to worry about loosing the breasts though!
all in all, its worth a try i mean side affects are different for everyone.

Introduction
I've been using Yasmin for about 3 years. My first pill was Aleese but it is no longer on the market here in Barbados. I started using Yasmin after hearing my friends in the gym talking about how good it was. So since the one I was taking before(can't remember the name right now) was making me very nauseas, I decided to take Yasmin. I find that when I take it with my supper at night it doesn't make me feel so nauseas, cause when the nausea step in I'm asleep. I would love to stop taking it but I feel that if I change to something else the side effect will be greater. I don't think any pill can match Aleese! I was never sick taking Aleese and I never gained any weight.
Good Points
Little weight gain
Clean skin
No babies
No spotting
Bad Points
Very nauseas, I throw up and feel quite sick sometimes
Have to take it with a meal if not I feel sick
I've never thought about it before but since someone mentioned it I too get cramps in my legs.

The Verdict
I think someone needs to come up with a pill that doesn't make you nauseas.

Introduction
I have been on Yasmin for two years now. I went from a dodgy pill that made me fat and moody to this one, and at first it was great, i lost all my weight i put on and wasn't moody anymore. My boobs filled out a little bit while still maintaining no weight gain. I was never moody, had great skin and thought it was excellent.

Though recently in the last 4 months i have been experiencing spot bleeding in between periods which me and my BF hate! I am considering changing, simply just for a change. Hopefully to stop my spot bleeding. I am nervous about all the side affect that i could get from other brands seeing i have had such a great run with this one.
Good Points
Loss of weight (coming off a pill that made me fat)
My boobs grew
Great skin (though always had good skin)
No mood swings

Bad Points
Loss of sex drive (i didn't even think it was due to the pill until finding that other people have said the same thing from this web site)
I think that my foot cramps are due to this pill (i never used to get them and other ppl have said that they experienced it form the pill, though i have dealt with it)
The Verdict
I do recommend trying this pill, out of 5 ppl i know using this pill 4 have had the same outcome as me. Only one had to change. It is expensive $55 for 3 months but its worth it if you get a good oucome.

Bad Points
Mood swings, permanent tiredness, no sex drive, weight gain & bad headaches.
The Verdict
Wouldnt really recommend Yasmin unless you enjoy being fat moody & fridgid

Introduction
I have been taking YASMIN for at the very least 6 years now. Started with GYNERA and afterwards changed into TRI-MINULET. As per advice of my ginecologist, I started taking YASMIN, since according to her was better at hormonal level and effective as well. Never had problems about weight gain due to pills, only due to bad eating and lack of exercise, even with the previous pills. The only weight I gained was on my boobs which I can say it's not a negative point, on the contrary.

Obviously, I admit some women are very sensitive and may feel different depending on the sort of pill they're taking. Not my case, thankfully.

As to the sex drive, I have my doubts it has something to do with a pill... I think is something more connected with you and your partner, and what happens beneath the sheets. If it had something to do.. I would be climbing walls, for God's sake! :))))
Good Points
Strong and firm boobs - checked! :)
Short period, like 2 to 3 days, at the most - checked! :)
No acne - checked! :) - but then again, I never had much of it, although I have a pretty oily skin type.
No pregnancy - checked!
No period cramps - checked! :)
Bad Points
The Verdict
Excellent!

Introduction
Pleased I found this site! Been on Yasmin for 3 months now. Was on dianette then marvelon before to help with acne. Marvelon was great but I stopped taking it after I split up with my partner. After 4 months of no period and great skin my acne came back, not as bad as before but bad enough. Doctor (in Korea) recomended yasmin over diane but I'm not happy, literally. First two months ok but now always tired, feel like I have permenant PMT and skin very bad around time of period. Also very bad water retention and some weight gain although my diet is very healthy and I exercise daily. Going to see dermatologist on Friday, sick of taking medication every day.
Good Points
Regular periods.
Skin better.
Bad Points
Skin bad around period.
Feel depressed and angry for no reason.
Weight gain.
Water retention.
The Verdict
Look for something else. I found Marvelon a really good pill, cleared up my skin in about 2 months and no side effects at all.

Introduction
Yasmin contraceptive pill. Been on this for few weeks, prescribed for contraception and to help with PCOS symptoms. Age 37.
Good Points
No doubt the best bit is having fantastic boobs again! I was a generous C cup in my 20s and considered this a part of my body I actually liked before having a baby, but breastfed for over a year and was left with rather deflated, droopy boobs, that eventually made it back to a b cup but still looked rather pathetic from the side! Even after a few days of taking Yasmin, my boobs looked lifted, much firmer and rounder and honestly not far different from their pre-pregnancy stage. Amazing. No obvious weight gain either and stopped my period dead when I first started it.
Bad Points
Severe anxiety, irritability and paranoia! Am usually a pretty chilled out person but have found myself shouting at people, snapping and feeling irrational and confused - no doubt linked to the pill (although my bloke is - well, a bloke, aint no new man there! - so perhaps my lack of tolerence is long overdue!). Need to go to the loo a bit more but this isn't so bad. I also look and feel extremely tired, but this might not be a direct side effect, it may be linked to the anxiety (I actually woke up with clenched fist for the first time in my life and am waking up very early). Slight nausea too.
The Verdict
Hm. I don't like the psychological effects which are definitely related to taking this pill, but the cosmetic effects and contraceptive effects are great, so will vanity prevail. Come to think of it, maybe it works as a contraceptive because you're such a bxxxx that after taking this for a short period of time you'll be condemned to a life of celibacy!

Introduction
I came off Yasmin last month after being on it for 2 1/2 years. I went on it as a result of bad acne rather than a contraceptive. In my first year I experienced a honeymoon phase... my acne cleared up, I lost over a stone in weight and a had a higher sex drive. In the past 3-6 months, I have started feeling really low to the point where my emotional state is a total mess...i'm happy one minute and crying the next for no reason! Plus have started to gain weight again, which i can't cope with after losing so much! I've only been off it for a month so far so haven't noticed a huge difference yet but i'm hoping I go back to my normal self again soon! I feel like it has really messed me up.
Good Points
Regular cycle
Acne cleared up
Lost a lot of weight
Higher sex drive
No period cramps
