Microgynon 30 Contraceptive Pill

i've been on Mictogynon 30 nearly a yr now and have found it works ok for me, espically when working out when to take a break on it etc... dont have to worry about getting pregnant
easy to use no bigger boobs infact i think there smaller but i dont mind
odd headache now and again really good as long as u remember to take it everyday, shorter pain free periods. just makes lift easier and more enjoyable really

I started taking this pill nearly a year ago and at first thought it was great, my breasts grew and my periods were regular, however over the past few months i have found i am in terrible moods all the time and find anything to argue about with my boyfriend. I also get horrendous cramps during my period and often have to take days off as i am doubled up in pain, also my breast size decreases during my period.
I have also found that i am coming on my period later than i should which scares me about pregancy! -Regular-ish periods

-Very bad cramps
-Low sex drive Probably wouldnt recommend this pill as it will cause you bad cramps and even worse mood swings!!

I have been on this pill for three months nd will never take it again!! Stop pregnancy TERRIBLE mood swings, constantly in a mood and finding anything to moan about. On the verve of splitting my relationship up.

Weight gain. I would never use this pill again as it completely changed my personality into a horrible moody person. Would recomend a pill with no estrogen in instead

I started taking the Microgynon pill about 4 years ago when my doctor switched me from Cilest due to the Oestrogen level difference.

However, i have only recently made the connection between my mood swings and taking the pill after a friend recently mentioned to me that it could be the pill that i was on affecting me. Before that i put it down to PMT, or the fact that i was a manic depresive - which my fiance has actually called me a few times when i have had an episode during my cycle.

I have done quite a bit of research and think that maybe this could be the reason for my unexplainable and uncharacteristic mood swings which are starting to seriously affect my relationship. I have also noticed that my sex drive is virtually non existant which defeats the point of taking the pill in the first place. I have booked an appointment with my doctor with the intention to change or come off the Microgynon pill as soon as possible. Regular periods

Apparently the pill that doctors typically recommend as it is the cheapest pill on the market?! I initially thought it was good, but increasing the side effects have built up. I want to stop taking this pill as soon as possible.

NOTHING I GOT PREGNANT ,even though i took it the same time everyday, did not have vomiting/diarrhoea or take antibiotics. if your relying on this contraception, use another barrier method,

Started taking this pill two years ago, after having my first child. I'm 25 now. I'd been on this same pill aged 17 and stopped because I was having two periods a month, but this time it was very different. - Regular periods

I started the Microgynon 30 pill last year September to avoid getting pregnant and to regulate my periods. I preferred the pill because my GP said it was the contraceptive with the least side effects. 1.No pregnancy worries

First started taking this pill 2 years ago as a contraceptive.
I was put on Cilest first but didn't like it so changed to this as it has a lower Oestrogen content.
I've had no side effects and can run up to 5 packs back to back without any bleeding.
I've read many negative reviews but this pill really worked for me. I've recently switched to Loestrin 30 as I have problematic skin (not from taking this pill)but highly rate this one. No weight gain

Basically I would greatly recoment for you women who decide they want to go on the pill to avoid this particular one if they feel that there life is the smallest bit stressfull. I have been on it and ended up suffering from depression. Also trying to commit suiside. After this i spoke to a close friend of mine who also went through the same as me and fortunatly we both came out of it the other side. She said to me though her friend had said that she looked up this pill and it had been said that people can suffer from depression with it, Both of us had our mini drama's in life however having this pill seemed to make them 100 times worse. I thought it might just be stupid so recently i started taken this pill again, as it almost ruined mine and my boyfriends relationship because my hormones were on an emoutional rollercoaster. I just dont feel this pill is one that should be given out to people unless they are very stable in life. Sex with no condom Too many:-

I was prescribed microgynon 30 when I was 15 due to extremely heavy and painful periods, it helped greatly. When I started to become sexually active I didn't have to worry about condoms ripping and becoming pregnant and other things young women worry about. I also found it far more convinient, stopping foreplay to put on a condom can sometimes ruin the moment! I have been taking it 3 packs back to back for 5 years now and the only reason I would ever stop would be to have a baby. No Pregnancy

I am so pleased to have found this site as I was close to going to docs thinking I was a manic depressive!
I have been on this pill for 3 years and have felt awful but I did not even think it could be side effects to this pill until I went for my last pill review and my blood pressure was high and I found myself bursting into tears on the nurse! I blamed being stressed at work but even then I have wondered whether I am blowing my workload out of proportion and my partner pointed out that it cant be just work as I am ALWAYS a B*tch basically!!
I have felt this last year and a bit depressed, angry, agitated, irratable, annoyed, paranoid, anxious, self doubting and I have such a short fuse my partner doesnt know wether to speak to me or not and asks today am I "NICE Stacey or "EVIL Stacey" ?!
I do not have any breakthrough at all on the 7 day break and when I take the first pill again of the month I have the tiniest breakthrough that I wonder if I have had a period at all?!

I am 34, married and got 2 children and was using condoms as birth control which isnt the most convenient method. We had been thinking for a long time about the long term and that we should try something more stable......so i basically tried this pill as i was going on holiday and was due on my period right at the start of it so i started taking these pills and carried on to the 2nd pack without a stop and this did serve a purpose. I thought that if the pill suited then i would carry on with this type of contraception long term but.................I came off it without finishing the 2nd pack as my husband couldnt stand the change in me any longer and to honest neither could i!!! Maybe boobs grew marginally but nothing to speak of Sex drive plumetted to zero which defeats the object really!

I was prescribed microgynon at the age of 20 and was on it until I was about 30 when my doctor changed me to Minulet, one of the new generation pills. Not sure if this was due to pharmacutical company incentives or due to genuine anticipated benefits of the new pill.
At the age of about 35 my family planning nurse changed me back to Microgynon when Minulet was out of favour during a breast cancer scare. I'm now 42 and take 3 packets back to back (with my doctor's blessing), so only having a period for about 3 days every 10 weeks, which is very convenient. Apparently that's common in the USA.
My sister has DVT problems and so I had a blood test which revealed no such clotting issues with me, luckily. If anyone is worried about this then ask for a blood test.
I have maintained normal blood pressure over the 20 odd years on the pill.
I don't consider myself to be moody, and have a fairly healthy sex drive. Sometimes when I'm on my week off the pill I can be a bit ditzy or blonde. Once I filled my car up with petrol and drove off without putting the petrol cap back on! I'm fine when I'm on it though. Perhaps I've been on it so long that it's shaped who I am?
My fp nurse wants me to change to a mini pill because I'm 42 and smoke, so I'm investigating them on the internet - which is how I found this site. No pregnancy.

None for me. Seems to affect everyone differently, after reading reviews on this site. To be honest I'm apprehensive about switching from it, having been on it for the best part of 22 years.

I am so glad I found this site - some of the things other people are describing really ring true for me. I first went on Microgynon 30 aged 16. I was perscribed it as I had very heavy irregular periods (ie 5 weeks on 1 week off) This it did settle down. Very easy to use and much lighter periods as a result. However, I have recently started to question whether I should still be on it. I am 21 now and more recently I cry at almost everything and am moody and irritable ALL the time, to the point where it is really impinging on nearly every aspect of my life. I was starting to think that it might be depression or something but it seems far more likely that this pill just no longer suits me. Have also in hindsight put on a lot of weight since then. Was aware that this would be the case however was not a problem at the time since I was doing a lot of exercise. However, since reducing my exercise, although I am still doing quite a lot I have a lot of weight gained over these years that I seem to be just unable to shift. Definitely need to look around and try and get a new one. However, it did suit me fine for a good few years. 1. Predictable periods

2. Mood Swings I would advise anyone starting on this pill to be aware of the side effects. It is not the pill for everyone. Also realise (like I didn't) that just because it suits you once does not mean it will always do so. I would still recommend it althought for myself perhaps it is time for a break or a change...

I was 18 when I first went on the pill & I was given Microgynon. The side effects for me were horrendous....I couldn't stop crying (at anything & everything for no reason), the arguments between me & my boyfriend (now husband) were truly awful(luckily he stuck around), the headaches made me feel like my head was going to explode & I got so depressed that my GP prescribed me anti-depressant pills! When a doctor finally listened to me & prescribed me a different contraceptive pill, my life changed for the better. I wasn't moody, depressive, snappy or tearful & the headaches disappeared! I didn't think swapping the pill could be the only reason for the changes until we were having problems getting my new brand & I had to go back on to Microgynon....BIG mistake! All the problems I had experienced before came flooding back. My husband says I was irritable, irrational, awkward & he couldn't cope with the mood swings...he couldn't cope with livng with me (and we've been working together for the last 5 years & been very happy)! I know everything he said was true because I could feel myself being all these things but there was nothing I could do to control it or stop it. Again, I went back to the doctors and told them I had to have a different pill & I was prescribed Trinordiol! These worked a treat until they were discontinued earlier this year...so yet again I was prescribed Microgynon (just for a month to see me through). Oh no, here comes all the problems AGAIN :-( Finally I got Ovranette & they seemed fine until I moved to Lanzarote & they don't have Ovranette....Microgynon here we come! I have been taking them for the last 18 days and I'm very lucky my husband and I haven't split up because all the moodiness & unhappiness is back again! So, basically in the last 10 & 1/2 years I have tried Microgynon, Logynon, Cilest, Trinordiol & Ovranette & it's only Microgynon that makes me a horrible person to be around.

My life is great and I love it until I get on this pill, then I hate it and my life turns to crap! + very regular & light periods - cry for no reason

this was the first pill i tried and was on it for about 2 years. i found it put a little bit of weight on me but i was fairly active. my boobs certainly got bigger but the major disadvantage was it made me feel depressed and snappy a lot of the time and it caused so many unnessacary arguments.
my doctor then tried me on Yasmin, but i found this even worse. it increased my appetite causing me to put on 2 stone, even though my boobs went huge! but i didn't experience the same mood swings and was a lot happier. because of the weight gain i decided to come off the pill altogether and get the hormones out of my system. i lost 2 stone and felt happier and normal again!
about a year later i decided to give microgynon 30 another shot as i was having trouble with my periods. i have been on it just over a week and already i feel irritable, my boobs are sore and my appetite has increased. so once this pack has finished i won't be going on them again. i have learnt my lesson! bigger boobs

im on microgynon 30 and i am on my second week but i have just started to get breakthrough bleeding and it is heavy and has lasted me 5 days so far and doesnt look like its going to stop. i hope this does not carry on throughout taking it longer. no pregnancy..

I had quite irregular periods, had terrible period pains and also wanted to be certain I was protected from unwanted pregnancies so I went to gp to gat the pill and they prescribed me this pill to see if it suited me. the first month my boobs were seriously sore and hard and when i did have my period it was relly heavy and was in crippling pain but after that initial month it's been amazing. hardly any pains, no sore boobs and really light period (3 days). NO BABIES!!!!!

Well I just came off of Norimin - 1 cos my period wouldn't stop and just got heavier every day, and now have been put on Microgynon 50, quite a high dose but I have had shit all luck with these little pills all my life! - no pregnancy

- more affectionate towards my boyfriend - I suffer from acute migraine headaches at the best of times, as Ive just started taking Microgynon 50 I cant say how its effecting my migraines exactly, though they seem to have spiked and increased just in the last few days.

- Nausea if I dont take the tablet with food.

- Break through bleeding at this stage, but its getting lighter and lighter every day so Im hopeful. Time will tell I guess, I haven't been on it all that long. two things that will force me to stop taking it the future though is if my migraines increase and if I have bleeding problems, in which case Im looking at getting the Mirena put in (kinda like an IUD).

It's only since coming off this pill that I have been able to control my emotions, I used to cry over the Red Cross Adverts!!

wow...i just got this pill from my doctor, its my first pill, and reading/scanning those reviews im kinda anxious :/

basically all the ones i read said horrible mood swings/depression? thats one of the things i specifically asked my doctor about and she said only in the first couple of months, but there seems to be a lot of women who disagree with that... and a decreased sex drive? :( sex drive is why i got the pill in the first place! scared!

I was on this pill for 6 years and went on it when I was 22. I'd always been a bit skeptical about contraceptive pills and giving your body extra hormones, but decided to give the pill a try after my university house mate convinced me of the benefits...i.e. shorter periods and knowing when they'd start (before I went on the pill my periods would last for between 8 and 10 days and my cycle could be anything from 28 days to 42!!!).

I didn't initially have any side effects and it seemed to work for me for a few years. Occasionally I would get sore boobs that went rock hard (!!) but this would be generally if I'd taken 2 packs back to back which I only did if I was going on holiday or something.

Over the last year or so though I've noticed that I've become incredibly moody and will cry at any opportunity. I've become very snappy too. I didn't think that this was down to the pill as I used to get a bit of PMT before I first went on the pill. Yet the more I think about it and compare myself to before going on the pill and now, and also when I read about other womens experience with this pill, I think that it has contributed to my irrational (and sometimes psychotic!!!) moods!

My hormones have been up and down on this pill and I've also been a bit depressed. I changed from this pill about 2 months ago onto Yasmin following a recommendation from a couple of friends. Yasmin was no better though and I was only on it for a month as, whether down to the moodiness caused by Microgynon or not, I was like Jekyll and Hide and became very violent towards my boyfriend, who I lashed out at because he didn't help me bring the shopping bags in!!! It was like I had a time bomb ticking away inside me until one day when I just snapped, which was quite a scary experience.

I decided to stop taking Yasmin straight away and wanted to avoid all methods of hormonal contraception. However, I'm a bit put off by getting an IUD fitted and have now been back to my GP to discuss getting a new pill prescription...thought I'll try another pill as I know its trial and error! I've now been given Loestrin 30 which has a different Progestin to those used in Microgynon and Yasmin. Hopefully my moods won't be affected on this pill like on Microgynon and Yasmin!

What I would like to point out though is that unless you have a certain reason for needing to go on the pill i.e. bad acne, heavy painful periods, Microgynon seems to be the pill of choice for most GPs. I find GPs (especially male GPs!!) to be very ignorant about the effects that the pill can have on your body and are also controlled by the cost of the pill to their annual budget. They will always prescribe Microgynon first as it is one of the cheapest pills available. I have since moved to a new city since first being prescribed Microgynon and asked my GP about Yasmin. She showed me the cost of Yasmin (a much newer pill) to that of Microgynon (which has been around for 40+ years) and its quite astonishing! Microgynon costs the NHS less than £3 for a 3 month supply...yet Yasmin costs over £14!!!!

I would advise anyone looking at a new pill to make sure that you stand your ground with the GP and don't just accept the first pill given to you. There are 22 different combined oral contraceptives available on the NHS ranging in strength and with various Progestins. GPs don't offer you a choice and go by cost, but its your body and you have a right to be on the pill that works for you and not the one which works for your GPs budget. * Easy to take - very small pills

Depends on your own body at the end of the day. This pill didn't work for me but works for some of my friends. All I'd suggest is that if you notice that you seem different in yourself to normal, then speak to your GP and check out another pill. Its one of the cheapest oral contraceptives available on the NHS and the one that is most prescribed...all because of the minimal cost to the NHS and not necessarily because of any benefits it may have.

i have been on this for ten years, i am 48 and the reason i was prescribed this pill was that my periods were very heavy and irregular and extremely long lasting eg 6 weeks non stop. you can imagine how upsetting that can be especially to your love life[yes i still have one!] this pill has been a life saver for me but i am having to face coming off it because of my age so it's been very interesting to read other peoples experiences in this as frankly i'm scared and have been putting it off as this pill has made my life so easy! incidentally i have been on the pill since 16 apart from 5 years trying to conceive[IVF twins eventually] so a total of 27 years! Luckily i am a healthy very active non smoker with no blood pressure problems otherwise i don't think i would have been prescribed it. 1 periods predictable

I've only been on this for 2months and it's the first pill I've taken. I'm normally a quiet, shy person and don't get aggitated at all. In fact I tend to let people walk all over me in my attempts to please people, but being on this I've started getting aggressive for no apparent reason, paranoid and very easily pissed off. People that never annoyed me before annoy me, and people that annoyed me a little but I would never say anything to I've started finding excuses just to argue with them.

On top of this I'm getting really angry with my boyfriend for no reason to the point where I'm pushing him away. Then I'll get really upset and clingy cos I know I don't mean what I've said, but this is making things worse.

On top of this it's making me pretty much hate myself and want to spend up curled up in bed pretending nothing exists (not good when I have lectures to go to, essays to do and a job to go to!)

I'm beginning to think maybe I should try something else. No pregnancy.

Thank god for this website, i thought i was going mad. I recently had a brain wave and thoiught that maybe the Microgyn pill i was on was making me depressed. Agter reading all the comments i suspect it is the pill. I am evil always tired, irritable, anxious, mood swings, can cry at BOO! So glad i researched on the internet about microgyn. I was on Microgynon for 2 years, i've just changed to Dianette as on Microgynon i was pretty much satan! It was the first pill i was given by the doctors and i didnt notice how bad i was until this year! I wouldnt recommend this pill to my friends! - regular periods!
-stomach cramps not as bad yay! -Mood swings (extremely bad!) I'd be fine then the next minute i'd be really moody or aggressive and shout at my boyfriend and say sorry later cause i know i was wrong and didnt mean to because i couldnt control my moods.

On this pill I feel like a teenager with a bad attitude

ive just spent a great day with my boyfriend we had so much fun n were laughing together all day.at night we were watching a happy film and i burst into tears. i have no idea why.This sort of thing is happening morre and more to the point where my boyfriend has started asking me if its him and if i still love him.
I started this pill arround the same time as coming to university n i have been thinking that maybe its not right for me.Thats just not like me though i confident n outgoing n have made loads of new friends. thats when i started thinking it may be the pill. you dont get pregnant

I was on this pill for a month and a week and i didn't get on with it at all. I'm now on cilest which iv found to be much better for me. Regular periods. Depression (no reason whatsoever, considering suicide etc as i just thought it was for the best because i couldn't stand anything. I didnt see the point in anything)

Completely changed my personality, much more moody etc.

Period pain which ide never had before. It didnt get me pregnant but i would never want to go through that again.

I went on the pill as i had very irregular periods. I had never had mood swings and my periods were heavy, but not very painful.
Since going on the pill, my periods are... not as heavier as they were, but quite painful. sometimes i'm actually doubled over in pain. i have headaches more often than i used to.
my appetite has definitely increased, which in my case wasn't a bad thing as i wanted to put on weight! i've put on the max about 1 stone since coming on the pill which i started 10months ago. i have cravings for crisps and cookies especially. in fact i find it hard to stop myself. this is probably where my boobs came from! i went from a 32b to a 32D/DD! but it was quite sore as they grew fast!

my moods were okay to begin with. although now they go from one extreme to another. but when i have my period i feel fine again. then as soon as i start taking the pill i feel myself slipping back to being emotional and angry.
my skins stayed pretty good whilst on the pill as well! which i was pleased with! made my periods regular

painful periods that weren't shorter, but lighter by a little bit. although there are less bad points than good, the bad points have definitely outweighed the good for me. i hate being depressed one minute and angry the next and then guilty for feeling the way i do. it's not who i am.

i've been on this pill for about 10months now. at first i thought it was great! my periods were regular, shorter and less painful. now towards the end not only are my periods regular, they are now heavier and quite painful again.
i have gone from my normal self to a crazy, paranoid mess! then i feel guilty for actually feeling this way. can't stop crying over stupid things like leaving my boyfriend. i've cried pretty much everytime. its like 15times now! its getting quite ridiculous!
my sex drive went up a lot as well on this pill. boobs got a lot bigger! went up 3 cup sizes! woo!

Iam 21 years of age and have been on the pill since august.I have never taken the pill before.I was prescribed this pill because i was having very very irregular periods.This was due to having polycystic overies.After a few tests and scans i was told i suffered with PCO.So by me taking the pill it would regulate my periods and i would know what was going on with my cycle, where as before i didnt have a clue and would just come on when my boobs were sore and i was bloated.
At first this pill was great but after a few months it has turned me into a complete mad women and for my own sanity and not losing the man i love.I am planning on coming off this pill and i have an appointment with my doc in 2 days time to sort out this situation.

Iam so happy i have found this website as iam now aware im not the only women having this same problem and also i know im not going mad.
I feel at times im going insane, and i was never this way before the pill.Im ususally a very laid back, easy going girl, but since i started the pill back in august everything has changed.I would like to go back to being the girlfriend i was when my boyfriend first met me 2 and a half years ago.As im sure iam very hard to tolerate at times.
If i had my way i would of rated this pill a zero percent as i really think it is awful and i cant wait to come off it and get it out my system.

I was having irregular periods before went on it, so was good to be regular again. The irregularity of my periods before I went on this pill was getting me down, so it was nice to have the reliability of the pill ie. not worry about being pregnant. Skin seemed slightly better

Regular periods I did notice an increase in my appetite, it was like my body couldn't tell when I was full... which led to feeling sick!
I couldn't work out the pattern for my cravings for sweet food... they seemed very inconsistent
I actually had an increase in sex drive, so much that it has actually pretty much put my bf off sex!! (not the desired effect!)
I have had slight weight gain
The major bad point to this pill from my experience is the serious mood swings!! I feel irritable pretty much all the time, and started to wonder if I'm suffering with depression.
Also not 100% it was this pill but I've had really bad constipation (despite having a good diet) The bad points definitely outweigh the good for me. My bf and I argued more because of me feeling so emotional. He couldn't understand my feelings of depression, and slight obsession that I might be putting on weight. I love him even more now though... it must have been hard work living with me!!
I wouldn't tell anyone not to take this pill, as I think it works different for each person. But I would say... be aware of the side effects (which sound quite common). My depression seem to come on gradually.

I have been on Microgynon 30 for 12 and a half years. Stops pregnancy.
Easy to use packet (days indicated).
Allows sex to be spontaneous.
No mood swings.
No period pains.
Light periods. Reduced sex drive (after coming off the pill I have been all over my husband!) An absolutely fantastic form of contraceptive and I would recommend to anyone.

This pill should be called "THE PSYCHO PILL".

Just come off this pill after two months, did the proper break after last month ETC. It has been the worst two months of my life.

- No one around to bother you, since you have driven them all way

- No more arguments with boyfriend since he and you will break up at some point during the time you are on it

- No pregnancy, not sure if it was down to the pills effectiveness or due to the fact that you stop having sex because you completely lose you sex drive

- You realise how annoying all your loved ones are and how much you can't stand them, and how they always say the wrong thing. They never seemed this bad before you took the pill

- You get an insight into how mental people and schizophrenics feel, can be interesting, if you'd like to turn into a manic

- You realise how shit you and your life is, and begin to realise how pointless you are

- You realise the appeal of kicking things like bins or doors or you boyfriends face in, seems like the only thing you want to do sometimes, and there is never really any apparent reason for it

- Don't need to fork out for Halloween outfit because you have already turned into a monster - Cry all the time

Apart from that none! THE PSYCHO PILL is exactly that!

I am a 40yr old housewife who has been on Microgynon for four months now. It was the suggestion of my doctor, as it was an "old favourite". My first packet I had terrible mood swings, and felt as I was going to chuck myself off the nearest bridge!!!
I normally bleed for five days, but after the first packet, I actually bled for nearly ten days. By the second packet, thank goodness, it settled down. Only bleed for three days
Hardly any discomfort.
Less loss Slight weight gain.
Increase in appetite.
Moody during the break off.
Lack of sex drive (My husband said, very effective contraceptive, stops you wanting sex!!).
First packet can make you feel yuck! I think this type of pill is more suited to the older lady, too many side effects perhaps for younger women? You do expect some, but not as many as you get from this pill.
It does work, but you have to persist with it, try to get through the side effects. I almost stopped taking them after the first week, because of the mood swings and not being able to control them.
I now wished I had taken them sooner, rather than trying to cope with really terrible periods, for such a long time.
My advice is stick with it, if you can!!

Started taking mycrogynon a few weeks ago, but I had to stop after 2 weeks because I was experiencing such bad side effects. -prevents pregnancy, I guess, but I did worry for a few days because I looked..swollen =/ -my clear-ish skin became really badly oily, which hasn't cleared yet, had a total breakout.
-boobs became really sore, solid to the touch.
-i looked pregnant, which panicked me, sort of defeats the purpose.
-became quite emotional

stopped period pains,after initial nausea no problems gave me a femoral vein DVT resulting in me having to spend 8 days in hospital and be on warfarin for at least 6 months plus having a permanently dodgy right leg. please do not let your GP give you this pill if you are my age (44) it was the cause of my DVT

been on microgynon for 2 and a half years and in that time i've put on 2 and 1/2 inexplicable stone! have tried all diets and had my thyroid checked, all to no avail.

after reading the comments on here i put 2 and 2 together and went to see my doctor who agreed it probably is the fault of the pill as last time i was on it (between the ages of 17 and 19) i put on two stone which i lost when i stopped taking it.

been given loestrin 20 which the doc says should help my weight get back to normal. thank god! no pregnancy
can pinpoint period to the hour insane weight gain which is impossible to lose no matter how hard you diet and excersise!

extreme irritability (i thought i was generally just a moody bitch; apparently not)

crippling low self esteem - due to the weight gain more than anything else, but i really have had times where i've burst into tears in the street at the slightest hint of my reflection

I gained a little bit of weight, but i was warned of an appetite growth when i started taking the pill, by both my Doctor, and the information leaflet in the pill box. Easy to take

ive been on pill for 10 yrs i started wehn i was 16 due to having awful periods which stopped me from going to school 1 day a month. i started the pill and it waslike a miracle, no pain, sickness, tiredness, passing out great! but not long after starting microgynon i developed eczema and i have had reocurrent thrush ever since, i just realized that these all have a link. i have recently stopped taking the pill I did spot for 2 weeks. I don't seem to be getting bloated as much as i did.
luckily i didnt gain any weight, i gained a big appetite but i exercise everyday so i kept it under control, i found that i would little problems would blow out of proportion and it would b the end of the world.
I did try to cme off microgynon before but i became very down i would cy and feel angry for no reason and felt i had no control of my emotons and i dint like this one bit so i went back on so this is the 2nd time iam trying to stop taking the pill. pain free, short periods

I was told by my gp that I have polycystic ovaries for many years it have affected me in many different ways, my period would only turns up when it pleases and sometimes constant bleeding so as a result of it I just did not get into the dating thing. My gp said that the best one for me to go on is the microgynon because I've tried so many but they even make me bleed even more. so I went for the microgynon and that was my life saver. Its the most effcetive pills I could ever come across. I've been taking then from I was 16 years old and I went on then only for the purpose of having a normal period and stop this heavy bleeding that has been going on for months at times.I got off it for sometimes and got pregnant and had miscarriages a few time, now am 38 yrs old and am off it for the past 6 yrs and at this moment am going to ask my gp to put me back on it because my hormones is giving me problems again and this constant spotting through the month is doing my heading so am going back on then.Its the best pill that could ever manufactured for me. light preiod. you know when to expect a period, no pain, clean skin, period last for 3-4 days and when it stop it means stop, no more spottings,no acne, my hair grows fast and healthy and so are my nails. Just fortunate for me that every thing about this pill is sooooo perfect for me,so on this pill for almost 22yrs minus the six yrs that i get off and now tomorrow am on my way back to my gp to put me back on it, what a way to go , i just which others could get the same benifits i get from these pills but just unfortunate every womans body respond in different ways. a little tender breast in the frist couple months of starting the pills but it settles down eventually. a little weight gain but I can handle that, am only 5 4in and am a size 10 pettie. I can only speak for my self base on the result i get. Its the best.

so pleased to know that it isnt just me going mad! i am 21 years old an have bin taking the pill for about 5 years, before i started taking the pill i was a slim size 8. i also was very happy with everything and rarely became moody over anything. since starting the pill i have turned into a monster, i can snap at anything or anyone, constantly having mood swings for no apparent reason and feel awful most days. i could also cry for absolutely any reason.i never realised that a pill could make me feel this way so just brushed it off an tried to get on with things. i have recently seen my GP who has changed my pill, since i have been off it i have already lost half a stone, an feel so relieved that i no longer have to feel like that, finally back to my usual self!!! no pregnancy- although my stomach looked like i was from how swollen i was!

I am 17 years old and have been with my boyfriend for 1 and a half years.i started this pill about 5 months ago and for the first month there were no bad side effects.

Then i became quite depressed but went away after a week or two to be replaced by quite a manic happiness but where i was constantly anxious about my bf leaving me.
Then i started getting really bad anger and anxiousness in general, began snapping at friends, hating myself and shutting myself away from everyone except from my boyfriend who i swung between anger and clinyness to.

I thought i was going crazy (i even researched bipolar disorder) until i realised my bad moods co-incided with the one week a month where i dont take the pill,and that they really only began once i started taking the pill. when i found this website i was so SO relieved.

now hopefully i can come off this pill and be the girlfriend my boyfriend deserves rather than a wreck. No pregnancy

I am going to see the doctor this week about changing pill. I want to carry on using a pill, just not this one. Hopefully others wont have the same side effects. If not, may just have to use condoms, which would be a shame but i would prefer that to feeling this way.

I have just come off microgynon 30 because i felt it really was affecting me in so many ways. If you take it every day and don't miss one you don't get have to worry about pregnancy, and it means you can have sex whenever and without having to buy condoms obviously. *Loss of sex drive (so there's no point being on it!)

I am 19 years old and started taking microgynon 30 approximately a year ago when I started my first serious relationship. It was during this time that I started university, but I then suffered with depression, terrible mood swings and constant crying. I managed to complete the year of uni but it was hell, and I decided not to go back because I wanted to be at home and I am now doing an open university course.
After reading other reviews, I am starting to think that taking the pill may have contributed my depression.

If this weren't bad enough, I have currently been on my period for almost 6 weeks now and have no idea why as I have been taking the pill normally. I have been to my doctor, who wants to see me again next week for a physical examination which I am dreading. I'm in good health and
it's definately not an STD, so I'm quite convinced that something is wrong with the pill- it doesn't suit me or something.

Moved to the UK about a year ago with a short supply of Monofeme (NZ only brand). I was on Microgynon for 5 months - Constant headaches (daily)

- Moody/irritable I've since changed contraceptives and I've lost about 3kgs in just over a week. I think it was water retention levels which may have also be the cause of my headaches which have now cleared up.

The god points are that you dont get pregnant and bigger boobs lol and its easy method to use as i ahve had the in jection too. hAVE Sex with my boyfriend and not worry. Well i ahve been on it for year and i am felling tierd and get cranky but i just thought it was me but i am going to the doctor to check it out. my last two periods are lighter and lasted 4 days when my cylce is 7-9 days mpt complaining but it did wory me and i ahve alot more pain in my stomache sometimes umbearable. Get cranky and peed of easily

I am 33 with a history of Fibriods so I am very sceptical when it comes to taking contraception as I am sure they where caused in part by the pill injection. Actually weight loss, I have tested this as I have been on this twice and lost weighrt both times.

I'm so happy i've found the reviews on this website. I have been to the doctors today because i have been having anxiety attacks, feeling like i can't breathe, nausea, constantly crying over nothing at all. I too have been taking this pill for 3 months and i actually cannot wait for it to leave my system. I'm usually a happy go lucky, healthy 24 year old but im convinced this pill has reduced me to a quivering emotional wreck! it got to point where it was effecting my job, panic attacks in the middle of work, wanting to burst into tears so i did some research on the interent and found nothing but bad reviews about microgynon. My GP has advised me to stop taking it and ive got to go back in 2 weeks for another check up. lighter periods

I'm sixteen, and this is the first pill that I have tried. Was on this pill for a month..and have just switched to 'Cilest' already which I'm going to begin tomorrow. Can't stop worrying about things I've just rang the doctor after realising what the cause of my mood swings, tearfulness etc are probably from. Hoping to go on a different pill or find another option.

I have been taking this pill for 7-8 months now. I started taking it when I met my boyfriend, everything was fine for the first month. But for the last 2 months I have noticed side affects. - Not pregnant
- Know when my period is due
- Don't have to panic when the condom breaks
- Lighter periods - Depressed feelings

- Crave chocolate more
- Mood swings
- Bad tempers
- Cry over the littlest things
- Snap at little things
- Bad mood 95% of the day.
- Remembering to take the pill at the same time everyday
This pill does not work for me. I will be speaking to my GP about going on a different pill and see if any thing changes.

I'm 19, been on Microgynon for just over 2 years. I've never particularly had any problems with it. Peace of mind - no pregnancy!

Well so far I've been taking it for 3-4 months now and it's been okay, at first I was having mood swings and being mean to my boyfriend for no reason what so ever; then feeling guilty afterwards. My boobs definatly have gotten bigger from C to DD but I'm not complaining. I haven't gained any weight; and so long as I eat healthly I have a fresh complexion without spots =D Period wise... totally fine at first was a bit more painful but the period was shorter 3-4 days.
In order to remember to take it I put a recurrent alarm on my phone.

I am so pleased I have found this site. I thought I was going completely mad until I read everyone's reviews.
I have been taking microgynon for over 20 years now and did not think anything different of the way I was feeling but now reading the reviews I can see that my behaviour has been down to the pill.
I have been so emotional over the last couple of days, I have been crying uncontrollably. I have been very irritable with it too (my husband has been so understanding thank goodness).

I've been on Microgynon 30 for a bit now and I must say, I am quite torn to how to rate it. My story starts a few months ago when I started getting "hot and heavy" with at the time but now current fling. I have always worried about becoming pregnant young and I've never been on the pill before. Since our relationship had gotten serious I thought it was time to make an appointment.


I waited for my first next period like the good old doctor said. I took it as soon as I woke up every morning. Silly me, I wake up at different times because of my work hours (sometimes 6:30am and sometimes even noon!). About a week into taking Microgynon 30, I started to bleed. I ignored it because I thought it was one of those periods where you have a little bleeding after your period was over. I was fine the next day but it was the following day that it went down hill.


I was just finishing work when I went to the loo and I was in shock. I was bleeding loads! More than I bleed when I'm actually on my period. I got so scared I thought something was wrong with me. I cried! I called my aunt (I live with grandparents who I don't get along with) and asked her for some help. The doctors was closed (who knew my clinic was closed on a Saturday) and she took me straight to A&E.


The doctors said I had a urinary infection (I get a bit because of my kidneys don't filter well, it's happened before) but he didn't tell me why I was vaginally bleeding. I took antibiotics for the week and it did clear my urinary infection but didn't stop the bleeding. I was bleeding ever other day for a whole month, it developed a rash on my inner upper thighs where my underwear band is, and had a discharge with a little odor.


I went off the pill for the seven days I was meant too and magically it disappeared. Well, it took the rash a while to clear. I then got my normal period. I wasn't happy I was on my period for a month. I read the piece of paper in the box again and I read some reviews. I saw that maybe it might of been because I took my pill at funny times; I was never consistent. Then I went back on the pill and take it every morning at 8am. I set my alarm and everything cleared up. The rash was gone, no bleeding, no discharges, and no worrying something was seriously wrong with me. I'm completely fine now and the boyfriend was well happy we got back to the sex!

It's good. And it works for me. I can deal with the tiredness and boob ache on a normal day to day basis but when involved in sex the pain in my boobs goes.

I've just come off Microgynon after being on it for several years and Marvelon before that. I can't say I had any side-effects from either. When I first started taking the pill I was a very skinny teenager and I stayed that way up until about 21. My mood cycle has always been quite regular, get a bit tense and bad tempered about a week before I'm due and that's it. My only comment is that my periods became very light (only 1 or 1.5 days proper bleeding) and have stayed that way a year after stopping taking Microgynon. I am trying for a baby, at last!, but I am suspicous that my cycle is not quite normal because of the light bleeding. No side effects

I got married in February this year and went on Mmicrogynon 30 for the 1st time. After 3 months I had gained quite a bit of weight and have been gaining. The weight is everywhere - shows on my face, arms, around my tummy, hips and bum are biiiig... I have tried to watch what I eat and exercise although after some time I stopped the exercise. - Got over the mood swings after the first couple of months

- Feeling tired some times Since it works differently for different people, I'm wondering how fast I'll lose weight when I get off it, which I want to do because the weight gain is too much. If it's working for you, stick to it. I think regular exercise and watching your diet might help with the weight gain if you're disciplined enough?

I got married in July and this is my 4th month on the Microgynon...i had to check out reviews to to find out whether it's just me, or other's are going through this as well....my poor husband is stressed. I am moody, depressed, no sex drive, i've lost my interest in everything..sometimes i dont talk to my husband for about 3 days!!!!....i couldnt understand why...now i know, and i'll be getting off this as soon as possible before my life is messed up even more... I haven't gotten pregnant

Started taking Microgynon 3 years ago and have had no real problems while taking it apart from an increased appetite. Iv had a friend try it and say it didnt agree with them cos they were crying all the time, but personally think they are a drama queen anyway! and she was like that before taking the pill anyway. control over when my period comes

Decided to go on Microgynon as I'm in a stable relationship and the condom broke twice in two months and even though I've been a bit wary of hormonal contraceptives, I decided it was better than the massive doses I'd been getting in the Morning-after pill.

Been on the pill for six weeks, however have just changed to a different pill as the negative side effects were too much. Works well as a contraceptive i.e. No pregnancy.
Not needing to worry about condom breaking.
No weight gain.
Light and regular periods.
Less pain during periods. After one week of starting it left me with many bad side effects:
Feeling apathetic towards everything, not being motivated to do anything more than just lie in bed and sleep.
Constant bad moods.
Mood swings.
Crying on and off constantly for five weeks.
Decreased sex drive.
Picking fights with friends and family over the smallest things.
Mild depression.
I wouldn't recommend this pill as although it does have some good points, I'm more than happy to put up with the bad points about condoms than have to suffer the severe effect it had on my mood and personality. I went from a happy, motivated person to crying all the time and staying in bed in just five weeks.

I went on microgynon 30 for a number of reasons---
. Contraception (as my boyfriend and I had had a few experiences of condoms splitting- when they were in date, and had been checked,)
. Hope of less painfull periods (as I couldnt move for 3 days each month due to the pain,)
. Im phobic of injections, so it was the best option for me.
. Thought it may help my skin- as my doctor had suggested it years ago for acne, but I said I wouldnt go on it,
. My boy-friend and I had been together a year and a half, so it seemed like the right step to take,
. I had my gold D of E coming up, and I wanted to be able to make sure I didn't come on whilst on it. Without being on it, and not being able to miss my 7 days off, i would be on.
. I wanted to be more regular, as before I could skip a month- for no reason.

I did lots of research to check if I could go on it, and friends who were on it, said it had helped their period pains, and they could control their cycle, which suited them.

I did have to wait to go on it, as I had to have blood tests- due to being exhausted, and lacking energy all the time- despite having an active lifestyle. The doctors thought it may have been anemia- due to me being vegetarian.
. Not pregnant.
. Know when i'm going to come on- which I didn't always before.
. The shiny green packet is very nice.
. Some how it sorted out my tiredness--- the blood tests came back normal- but within a day of takin the pill, i was no longer tired, and generally felt better.
. Its easy to remember to take- I've never missed one.
. Im not sure this is good- but my boobs have grown- within 3 days of starting to take the pill, I had gone from a small B, to a c. My boyfriend thinks its great- lol.
. When I went back after 3 months, they weighed me, and said "You've put on weight"--- I wasnt surprised- I had been doing my a-levels over that last month- so whilst revising, i had been eating ice-cream, and biccies permanently. I have now lost weight- due to being even more active- due to my job. I don't think the pill affects weight- unless you dont stay active.
. In a long term stable relationship it is a great method of contraception- if there is no worry of std's etc. . My periods are more painfull then ever--- I spent last month crying and curled up with my boyfriend rubbing my tummy.
. For my D of E I started a new pack, missing out my pill free week, yet I still came on- not good when you have to walk 86K in 4 days... luckily i wasn't in too much pain- due to being on paracetamol every 4 hours for a bad sholder. The period wasn't too heavy--- but staying on te pill is meant to make you skip.
. Hormones--- eg- one of my male mates said something- and i neary bit his head off- he then just said--- "You're on the pill--- my girlfriend is just like that... I avoid her for a week every month now."
. In all of the info about the pill, it says that they sive you 3 months trial, then you can get a years supply... Wheen we went back to the doctor, she said that they only give you 6 months- I am working abroad for a year- so as im out of the country I am going off the pill.
I can come on randomly in the pill free week- so I still don't know exactly when, but I can tell within a week- I am still on for the same amount of time, if not longer than before I was on the pill. Not for me- But depending on each person im sure this changes- it suits friends, just not me.
Your boyfriend/ partener has to be ready for hormones- mine is placid, and is very understanding- dont think I could cope without that- but I guess if you're with some-one they will understand you.

im 16 years old and i have been taking microgynon 30 for 6 months due to becoming sexually active. the pill is very easy to take and has made mine and my bfs sex life easier without the use of condoms. i have had no side effects of the pill but did gain some weight (however i am not sure this weight gain was anything to do with pill taking). the weight gain is however easy to manage and i have managed to lose this weight. the pill makes periods regualar so i know when they are and it isnt hard to remember to take them. its a good hormone to use. I have now been prescribed Microgynon 30 for the third time and would recommend that if taking this pill, you should monitor your behaviour and new problems with your body in a diary for the first three months. I have finally realised after struggling with very bad depression, being prescribed anti despressants and counselling and then further CBT Therapy (during second batch of pills), that the pill is the root of my problems. I put all my problems down to bad experiences happening in my life at the time but have realised this time round that isnt the case!

I am 22 and have been taking Microgynon 30 for nearly 3 years, at first I had absolutely no side effects and remembering to take it on time was not a problem. This pill maybe makes you crave sugar but I think I have a sweet tooth generally and it certainly does not stop you losing weight.

For about the past 3 months I have experienced shiny, oily skin with few but usually hard, painful boil like spots, along my jawline and chin mostly.

Feelings of being bloated and constipation I would also relate to this pill despite eating a - relatively - healthy diet. I am wondering whether to come off this pill and not go on any others until I need contraception again.

However, the best thing about this pill is that it gives you very regular periods, (although I have never been on any other contraceptive pill). Periods are lighter than natural ones and pain free - not that I had much pain before - only an odd day of unbearable stomach cramps about twice a year!

I would choose the pill over any other form of contraception - the injection is said to cause bad mood swings and I hate needles! The implant I would hate to have inside me as you can always feel its there - literally, condoms are a nuisance before sex although DO vitally protect against STIs. I know there is a patch but I would not trust that.

I am going to the doctors to try and change the pill or see whether I should come off it completely until I need contraception again. *Very regular, predictable periods.

*I trust it against pregnancy 99%, if you lose one borrow from another pack of "spares" OR take the last one of your pack and this will only make your cycle that month one day shorter - as it says in the leaflet.

*Useful when you can run two packs together, although I don't know how healthy it is to run more than two together.

*Free! + 12 months supply or more at once. *Bloated and constipation - not for the first couple of years however.

*Shiny, oily skin etc. - again, only for the past few months.

*Is medication that isn't absolutely necessary healthy?
-certain risks - breast cancer chance increases slightly - balanced however against reducing chances of cervical and ovarian cancer.

*Doesn't protect against STIs. I think as someone on here, very wisely, said as you get older you may need to change the type of pill you are on. Certainly, for me this pill suits me less now than when I was in my late teens.

Also, this pill is definitely favoured by doctors - for whatever reason, i suspect cost effectiveness. The majority of people I know on the pill are prescribed this. The cost isn't coming out of the doctors' salaries though, so don't feel guilty, get the best you deserve, we pay our taxes after all!

I have been using this pill for about a year now. Before I had the implant in the arm for 3 years and it caused bleeding for long periods at a time. So my doctor put me on this.

its rubbish ! i want to try another pill becuase this one seems to have more bad points than good.

I have been on this pill for just over a month and decided to stop taking it half way through my 2nd pack as I was getting bad pains in my legs and my whole body is itching. I also get headaches after taking it, feel sick if I eat after taking it and even if I don't eat I sometimes feel really sick at night although I'm never actually sick. A few weeks ago I had a serious crazy mood swing which has to be the pill cos it was completely out of the blue. When I first started taking it I was completely put off sex but that has stopped now. Not happy! Bigger boobs!

I'm 19. Started taking this pill a year & half ago. It was the first pill I was given and have found it is perfect for me. I'm not sure if it's just this one that suits me fine, or if im someone that would be fine with whatever i'm given. I personally haven't experienced any side effects what so ever. Luckily, I never had any problems with periods/spots/depression etc previous to taking the pill but taking it now hasn't given me any of those side effects either. I've had friends who we're given this pill and many of them found that they experienced a lot of the common side effects listed; eg, over emotional, depressed, period pains, spots etc so they had to change and have a different one. I think it does depend on how your body naturally reacts to certain medication or if you've experience quite a few illnesses or are prone to certain things anyway. I'm lucky - i haven't any allergies, reactions, illnesses so i took to this pill like a duck to water i guess! Everything remained exactly the same! And it does exactly whats it's supposed to - protects against pregnancy!
Slight increase to my breast size may be due to the pill but that could also be due to my age. None.. =] Personally this pill is 100% perfect for my body

This pill is absolutely awful. The 1st month of taking it was the worst. I am surprised that I am still married!! It turned me into an emotional skitzophrenic. I have never in my life found myself get so aggressive. It was scary. I took the whole course of 3 months wondering whether it would get better. It didn't so went and got it changed. I wondered if it was the pill or PND initially but after starting Femodene (which has been fine so far apart from spotting for the whole first packet)I have been my calm and gentle self again. The only positive for this pill, which is the reason I went on it in the first place, was my heavy bleeding each month disappeared and I could get on with life as normal when having my period. I shall take the next two packets of Femodene and then start to TTC my second child and forget about the problems involved with contraception.

I've been on the pill for a number of years now and have never had any problems with it! I was fairly underweight and so the weight gain was a definite bonus. My periods are always regular and most of the time and light and relatively pain free. I've never experienced triedness or depression with it and find that it has been the best form of contraception for me. This is the first and only pill I've ever been on! Im an eighteen year old healthy 8 and 1/2 stone gal!!!I started taking Microgynon in feb 2008. BIGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE!!! I took one packet and that was it!! I gained 3/4 stone in a month!!! Asked to change my pill, have since lost 8pounds, getting there.

Started this pill 2 1/2 months ago (its the first pill I've taken) and I'm just about to throw away the half a packet I have left for this month. It was fine at first, but gradually over the past 10 weeks I've gradually become more and more depressed, which is incredibly unlike me so the pill is the only explanation. I'll admit that everyone reacts to different pills in different ways but following my own experience of microgynon 30 I would not recommend this pill to anyone due to the immediate onset of psychological changes that I experienced. General feeling of apathy I'll admit that everyone reacts to different pills in different ways but following my own experience of microgynon 30 I would not recommend this pill to anyone due to the immediate onset of psychological changes that I experienced.If you're going to take this pill do it at a time when it doesnt matter if you go a bit loopy - i did it during the holidays just in case and its a damn good job cos if I'd been like this during uni term time it would have been even more of a nightmare.

Difficult to rate as I would give it 100% in terms of carrying out the job its meant to do - I'm not pregnant afterall, but 5% based on its side effects. If I could go back in time I certainly wouldn't take it.

been on this pill for 10 months, and i'm 18. - no babies.

- one day of pain the day before my period starts.
- slight weight gain. i would reccomend this pill.

The bad points are dealable, it's made my periods lighter and alot more comfortable, whereas before i was in pain for 7+ days.
i now only get 1 day of milder pain, and my period lasts for 4 days.
My slight weight gain, from 7.5stone to 8 stone is probably just due to my bigger breasts, which grew from a size 32B to 32D, in the space of 2 months.

The best point is no babies, and as long as it's taken correctly it works for that.

I went on this pill for getting married at the end of the year. Started taking it January 2008 and everything seamed fine. Started to notice that after about 3 months my breasts had become bigger not all bad until Ive put weight on and went to try my wedding dress on and it wont fasten up passed my breasts now. gutted. My weight never really changes so was surprised when I went up a dress size and a cup size. Went to the doctor and she told me I need to finish this packet and go on another pill at the end of this month. My wedding is on 1st Nov and Im hoping I will get into my dress!!! Microgynon was one of the first pills I've taken that hasn't made me crazy and/or depressed. I'd previously been on brands that would cause me to cry at the drop of the hat, which is always fun. Being unable to explain the root of your sadness is terribly frustrating, especially when your behavior is also negatively affecting your loved ones.

Anyway, despite this I'm changing to Cilest. Microgynon has left me with some serious cystic acne along my chin and jaw area. boo! No depression, crying fits or crazy spells!

I have been on Microgynon 30 for almost 9 years with no break until now. I'm 23 and have been on it since I was 15-16. I dont really remember much about my periods before taking the pill, only that they seemed a lot heavier and I did get period pains. I was put on Microgynon because most of my family and friends were on it. My friend come off the pill recently due to lack of sex drive and other problems and she advices me to come off it. I havent really noticed any difference in myself while taking the pill, however this month I havent taken it and reading all the Reviews on this website I have noticed that the pill has had some of the effects on me. > Not Pregnant

Well it cant be all bad as I have just been to my doctors to get another 6 months supply because I dont want to get pregnant before my wedding next year. I havent really had a chat to my doctor about it but it's definately something to monitor now and consider for the near future.

Point is the pill has so far protected me from getting pregnant and I dont have to be on it if I dont want to, there are other methods. I havent taken the pill for just over 3 weeks now and I'm waiting for my next period to take the next pill, in the mean time my partner and I have been using other methods of contraception soooo hope I come on now!!!

I am 30 years old and in good health. I started taking this back in May for contraceptive reasons and to stop light bleeding in between periods. Since taking microgynon I still have spotting which lasts longer than before I was taking it!!
On the first packet I had feelings of nausea (to the point where I thought I might be sick). I also felt incredibly hungry a lot of the time ... even after eating. I went back to my GP to ask whether I could change brands; he recommended I continue to take microgynon to see if the symptoms would subside. I no longer get a nauseous feeling but I still feel unusual hunger. Furthermore, I feel emotional, tearful and mildly depressed as well as very tired which is unlike me. I also feel snappy and aggressive at times. This pill doesn\\\'t have a lot to recommend it. Since looking into it, I have found that Microgynon is one of the cheapest contraceptives on the market ... which makes me wonder why my GP recommended I continue to take it.

been on the pill 3 months and i HATE it. i had the absolute worst pains ever when i had the 7 day break and got my period. i am not even kidding, i was at work and i had to phone my dad and make him bring over really strong pain killers from home coz i couldnt even stand up it was so painful.
i am only on it because i have 2 week periods and i used to be incredibly ill when i came on.
i was struggling with anorexia when i went on it and so not surprisingly i got really depressed when i put on so much weight from it, also i suffer from depression as well so that really makes things worse. i have no idea why i was put on this beast!!!! there are none, i would rather be 9 months pregnant for the rest of my life than this huge weight gain- 6st4 to 9st2!!:S

This pill has made my past week hell, I am 16 years old and have been on it for around 2 months for contraception. The only reason I went on it was because all my friends are on it and seem fine , I got a new boyfriend the week before and needed it for contraception. For protecting me against pregnancy it has been great but I gather that this pill does not agree with everyone. I started off gaining little weight, then random ups and downs and becoming quite emotional. I have always been normal , happy and confident. I went on holiday a 3 weeks ago and have been seperated from my boyfriend for the summer holidays which of course added to my experience. I started having horrible dreams and restless sleep, waking up in cold sweats and shortness of breath. I was so anxious and worried about nothing. I would dream that I would have done something terrible and then believe it the next day. I became paranoid and on the 5th day of this eventually broke down crying hysterically , vomiting and severe anxiety attacks. I am back home now and have only been off this pill for three days, I have chucked them all in the bin. I immediately feel happier, calmer and more like myself. I never thought this would happen to me and I wish I had never touched it. My mum also had a bad experience with it and suffered the same as me and did not say anything which then depressed here even more. I will now use other forms of contraception , but shall never go on a pill again. no babies constantly thinking your pregnant

This pill is obviously not useless because it helps so many of my friends , some are even happier and have not changed in the slightest. For me, it was hell, I cannot explain the feeling inside , but I never want to feel it again. At the first sign of any of these symptoms STOP.

Only been on microgynon 30 for 2 weeks and I have a terrible period type pain, like I have never experienced before. I was put on it as an interim whilst i wait for a coil appointment, and cos I have very heavy periods. I have also had some breakthrough spotting. My daughter (16) was in microgynon and had to come off it as she had terrible pains, a 2 1/2 week period and spots. I'm not going to keep taking it, because I can't take this pain (makes your legs feel tingly too). I have had 4 kids without pain relief, so I am not usually a wimp! Why is this pill being given out to people? Contraception Bad, bad, pains.
Can't believe in this day and age that medical science hasn't developed better alternatives and stopped such pills as this that have such poor results. I know it's worked out ok for some....but that doesn't outway the discomfort for others.

I have been on Microgynon since November 2007. Changed from my previous pill as I suffered with migraine in the lead up and during period.

Am considering going back to to my GP to say I am not happy with this pill as the side effects I am experiencing far out weigh the benefits!

Huge lumpy boil type spot most months, usually on chin and that's distressing enough! Anyone else suffered with this? As I said in my in my intro I am heading back to see my GP this month as I am due blood pressure test & weigh in with nurse, so perfect chance to review taking this contraception pill. I have just hoped that it would get better!

I have been using this pill for a few years but have recently decided to try another one to see if it makes any difference. It's hard to tell when it comes to side effects but I have given my opinion on how it affected me or rather how I think it affected me. No pill is that good let's face it. Well, I think it made me suffer mood swings (despite claiming in the instruction leaflet that it should quell the unpleasant symptoms associated with PMT). I also think it made me put on weight. I also think it had an effect on sex drive (not a good one)

I have been on microgynon for 3 months now,
needing a reliable contraceptive, improve skin, and lighten period/lessen period pains.
however i have had a CONSTANT 6 week period.........
which has been driving me crazy!

I took microgynon when I was 16 due to heavy/painful periods for a few years and then over time I've had to change pills as my body changed. They stopped manufacturing the pill I was taking last year and after trying a couple have ended up back on micrgynon at 26 and now I feel like crap. I'm going to keep going with it for the recommended six months and then decide then what to do, but so far the good points outway the bad.

This pill may have changed my life. I have been taking different birth control pills since I was 16 due to irregular periods and NEVER has a pill altered my physical, emotional, and mental health so catastrophically.

I have been having lots of symptoms over the past 2 yrs of taking this pill and visiting an endochronologist to sort out my raging hormomes, complete and utter fatigue, incessant need to urinate, constant dehydration, shortness of breath, dizzyness, blurred vision and heart palpatations!!!

After the past year of all sorts of blood tests, ECG, and catscans with no results to indicate the issue a mate mentioned to me on hols that she took the same pill (microgynon 30) and went mental after 3 months having lost control of her emotions, feeling dizzy and nausceous, and being too tired to go to lectures. Thanks to her I now know that I'm not dying (Which I thought i definitely was) and that it could all be attributed to this pill.

Have booked an appt to sort this out, but am devastated to have lived the first 2 years of my marraige as a complete hormonal and physical mess and become a complete mental case because I was so convinced by my symptoms that I was dying!!

ps...I am a completely level headed, anti-emotional type of woman who is active and fit and does not usually have any of these issues.

I haven't been on this pill for a while but while I was on it, I was completely mad! The mood swings were unbelieveable and my house mates and boyfriend were ready to kick me out. My mate was recently talking to me about how she felt out of control with her temper and moods and couldn't quite understand why. She felt like she wasn't in control of herself anymore. Low and behold she had just started taking Microgynon. She is now off of it and is completely fine! Regular periods Going completely mad and feeling like you are not in control of your own emotions. If you feel that you are loosing control and are not sure what is happenig to you - get off of it.

im 37. i never wanted to take any pill as i was too frightened what it would actually do to my body. however, after an unplanned pregnancy 9 years ago and the most dreamy perfect gift of a son. i met a special guy. ok, he is far from perfect. at present we are not together. anyway!.. i tried a pill, it made me fat, spotty and so tearful and moody. so i changed to micro 30.
regardless of the history. today i googled and landed on this site.
"i am normal" i wanted to scream!!!! its the pill that is making me this unstable woman.

I've been on Microgynon for 19 years! I have asked doctors several times about being on it for so long with no break and have been told it's absolutely fine. However, I've decided to stop taking it, mainly becuase I'm not sure what the pill may have done to my body or how long it will take to get back to normal.
And as I'm getting on a bit, I may want to start a family before it's too late. 1. No pregnancies (that was the point after all!)
2. Very regular and light bleeds There weren't any as far as I was aware but because I've been on it for 19 years (since 17) I don't actually remember what my body/emotional state was like before. So that's quite a bad point now that I think about it!
I have always accepted things, such as mood swings, tearfulness, feelings of low esteem , vaginal dryness, reduced sex drive, etc, as normal for me. I never linked them to the pill. It's only since reading other peoples experiences that I have realised that when I asked doctors was it OK to keep taking the pill and they said yes, they only meant that it probably wouldn't harm me physically. They didn't consider the other implications.
Anyway I've made the decision to stop taking it, I've just had my 'bleed' and am not starting another pack.
I just need to monitor what happens now, I hope my sex drive might come back, and I don't know what sort of period is in store for me as I last had a natural one 19 years ago! (and I don't remember it!)
Fingers crossed I'll be a changed person! But of course I'm not expecting wonders. I know that there are many things that could change for the better or the worse, it could be just me thinking the grass is greener, and it might not be, but I need to see.

Switched onto Microgynon at the start of the year on the advice of my doctor. Had previously been on Logynon, which was brilliant, and suited me down to the ground. However, the dr said it had a slightly higher failure rate and suggested a change. I'm not pregnant. That's about all that can be said. Where do I start?

After six months I can definitely say this one doesn't suit me (although it might suit some). I think I need a phased pill like Logynon that more closely mimics the natural cycle. I'm going straight back to the dr's looking for a change to something else.

I'm 18, I went on Microgynon 2 weeks ago as I'm going on holiday in a few weeks time. I've taken it once before to prevent periods but never managed to take it properly at the same time each day and every day where as this time I have. since taking it I have felt increasingly low, I'm paranoid and anxious and suffering really severe mood swings! I don't feel myself, I don't feel any control over my emotions, and I'm blowing the slightest thing out of proportion. Been reeeallly clingy to my boyrfiend, constantly paranoid he doesnt want me, which is just coming between us. after I totally irrational hysterical 2 hour crying fit yesterday I thought about stopping, then felt better again, but felt this overwhelming unhappiness waking up this morning, (which is so out of character)and decided to look it up on the internet and came across this site which has been sooo helpful! I'm definitely coming off it now, I'd rather just be on my period and enjoy my holiday! biggers boobs! tender though! weight gain

just general depressive feelings and everything that goes with it! My mum took this pill for 10 years and had no problems with it at all so it's definitely different for everyone! Just be aware of your emotions whilst your on it and make a decision whether its right for you from there. But in my opinion I won't be taking it again, messing with my hormones wasn't good!

I'm 17, and I've been taking this pill for a year; not because I'm "sexually active" but to control my periods. Before I took this, I had very irregular periods, but when I got them they lasted for about four weeks and were incredibly heavy. As you can imagine, I was pretty miserable, so was really glad when the doctor suggested this pill. Where to start? I can time my period almost to the hour! They're light and only last for about five days. None whatsoever. I would recommend this pill without a doubt.

I took Microgynon for six months back when I was 16, at that time I developed extreme anger problems although did not associate these with my pill, I came off that and went on the Injection (don't get me started on that) and went back onto Microgynon in December 2007, I am currently still on it (although have rang my GP to ask for an emergency appointment to be taken off it today). I didn't get any weight gain amazingly as I have been constantly hungry throughout, wanting to eat everything in sight. Where to start.....
-CONSTANTLY tired despite having tons of sleep and naps in the day.
-A feeling of dread continuously, feeling very low as though there is always something bad about to happen.
-ALWAYS hungry, and I mean all the time.
-feeling depressed, suicidal thoughts every so often.
-EXTREME paranoia about the way that I look, about not being good enough, convincing myself that my boyfriend will finish with me. Paranoid that everyone is against me.
-AGGRESSION, oh my god, it gets to the point that I just want to smash peoples faces in for no apparent reason, completely irrational thoughts and always agitated, no tolerance, smashing objects. Today was the final straw when I flipped out over nothing and started hitting myself then cried hysterically.
-I took it back to back once and I just had a constant period so that didn't work.
-Constant crying over nothing. I was crying every evening, thats when the low/depressed feelings were at their worst, I'd be fine then I would just sink into a really down mood.
- I had convinced myself that I was losing the plot, had some kind of mental illness as I have been absolutely horrendous for months, completely not myself. I'd like to point out I am without Microgynon very content and a really confident person, since I have been on it I have been the most insecure, angry, depressed person. I have felt like the world is coming to an end and that it is all so irrational, I have a perfect boyfriend who has been so understanding, I have good friends, I am doing well at work, I could not figure out what the matter was with me. Now I do. This pill is dangerous as far as I'm concerned, I have turned into someone else completely and the thoughts I have, such as violence and self harm are foreign to me. Get off it if you are experiencing any of this, it just gets worse and your'll end up feeling like a complete psychopath.

i was only on this pill for 3 months beacuse it caused me that much hassle i ended up back at my doctors from worrying to death over it none at all periods in between periods(i was getting 2 a month)

I used this pill for seven or eight years and have now stopped taking it. I am 26 years old. Good contraceptive. I never had any side affects either physically or emotionally whilst taking this pill, no period pains, no depression, no weight gain, no nothing. I always had a really light period and of course, knew when it was due. None whatsoever. Overall this worked for me 100%. My problem now is that in the first month after quitting it I'm suffering stomach cramps, feeling sick, and a general all round ickyness (but hey, aren't they also the first signs of being pregnant? Gulp!)

I started taking this pill in july 2007, and stopped last week..This pill made my life hell! What was worse was that I forgot what life was like before I started taking microgynon and grew used to life as a complete monster and thought this was normal until i discovered this website. Everything annoyed me, the smallest thing put me in an awful mood..my poor boyfriend had to put up with a changed girlfriend, i dont know how he did it for so long! I got very argumentitive and snappy. I cried ALL THE TIME at nothing.. i ate like a horse and grew to the size of a moderately sized house with made me feel depressed (still does, only off the damn thing a week and i dont know if il be able to lose the weight) I wouldnt recomend this pill to anyone, it is of the devil! I've checked out the other pills available and they too seem to be getting bad reviews so i've decided to stick to condoms which im not 100% happy about but i dont want to go through the hell of the past year, i wouldnt take this pill if you paid me. Didnt get pregnant..that is the one and only positive thing Massive weight gain (2 stone)as it gave me a massive appetite, i was hungry all the time and when i started eating i didnt know when to stop!

felt like there was a weight on my shoulders constantly and i couldnt figure out what it was

Got thrush due to the hormal changes

I was angry, snappy, moody everyday

I cried at the smallest cross word with people, especially my boyfriend which made me being a monster very difficult as id be horrible, he wouldnt appreciate the horrible behaviour and i would cry at his reaction

has to be taken at the same time everyday

i never properly felt at ease, it was almost as if i had something bad hanging over me

these are just a few of the bad points, there are so many more
I guess everyone is different and it may work for some people. I would say try it for 3 months, if it works for you happy days but if not stop taking it. I fell into the trap of ignoring the symptoms until i thought it was normal, dont make the same mistake as me

I have been on this pill for 6 months now and its been nothing but bloody trouble. Bleeding in between bleeds. Havent ever taken the pill before. I had a mirena coil for 8 years before having my son (2 years old now) and the coil was the best thing ever.

I started taking this pill when I was 15. It was because i was getting severe severe symptoms when my period was due or when it first started. I went to the doctor and they thought it was because i was producing too many hormones which was causing me problems.
It took roughly a couple of months for the effects to really work but it was a huge relief when it did.
The doctor had said that side effects may take place such as blood clots to the brain, lungs or legs. Thankfully, i haven't had any pains, but it was scary nonetheless.
I was really scared in taking it for the first time as it wasn't as if any of my friends were in the same situation as i was, but the leaflet on how you should take it and when you should take it and what you should do in the event of any symptoms appearing or whatever was detailed clearly which, i can tell you, was HUGE relief. Didn't get any of the side effects that were a possibility. Always a good start.
Instructions were really clear which really took a lot of worries off your mind. Damn the fact you have to take it 24 hours inbetween. It can't just be: when you get up, or... after you've had something to eat in the morning, afternoon or whatever. Mind you, maybe i was an idiot to take it at 8am. At weekends, getting up at that time (no matter what age you are) is absurd. I dunno, maybe i'm just lazy. It was the first time i had been put on medication for my problem. I mean, i was having this problem for YEARS. I started m period at 10 and they wouldn't give me the pill because i was either too young or they wouldn't put me on it until i was going to be sexually active. At 10, sex isn't really top priority... i was still playing with barbies! Yes, sad, i know.

I'm 20 years old, been on this pill since i was 17. Never had any major problems with it. stops pregnancy

I've had no problems at all with it and it was the first form of contraception i've tryed and have stuck with it

Anyone who says they've gained weight but their boobs have grown :) well that's kind of what happens if you gain weight regardless if your on the pill or not!

I also had a chat with my doctor about a year ago as my friend has a pill she takes for 3 months at a time then has her pill free week and he perscribed me 3 month packs of microgynon 30

The only thing i noticed with taking them at 3 months at a time was that the mucus lining must of been thicker than usual resulting in a really thick puttey thrush-like substance stuck right at the top which made sex quite unbearable

Anyway went and got it checked out and the doctor told me to go back to taking the monthly pack

After 3 months of no change and sad partner due to no sex :( i decided to come off it for a month for the first time in 6 years

first period came almost exactly 4 weeks of stopping the pill and sadly as heavy ad painfull as when i was 14 (the reason i went on it in the first place!)

The only upside is that that thick music stuff has gone :D but im going to have to go back on it as periods are now unbearable again :(

Also i feel a few pounds lighter since i've come off it not really sure if i gained weight due to the pill as i've been on it since i was 14 but im a healthy weight of 9.7 stone and 5ft, 5ins size 10 - 12 and i dont eat a strict diet just dont over-do it either!

I've been taking microgynon for the past 5 years and it is only now that after irregular bleeding, horrendous stomach cramps and mood swings that in all honestly are quite dreadful I went to the doctors for countless examinations and ritual blood tests! I have to say that when I began this pill I thought it worked quite well but having seen the way am now and my size!! I can see it is not all that great. My advise to anyone taking this pill would be to give it a chance but be prepared for lots of changes that may not be nice. For instance I have all but lost my sex drive (which my husband does not like and who can blame him!)I have become quite depressed which is very out of character for me and my weight has rocketed which is not pleasant when I spend hours in the gym for what seems to be no apparent reason! Im 17 and have always suffered from irregular periods and i mean completely irregular, i wont have one for 6 weeks then will have a period for three days an come back on in a week. so i thought id go on the pill especially as im now becoming sexually active. howevere ive only been on this pill for 2weeks and already im having problems. NONE SO FAR!! -my period has been stopping and starting for 2weeks

hi this month is my 3rd month on the pill so I started the pill in April. It didn't go well in the first month give it a chance. I felt sick couldn't eat much had to run to the toilet alot nearly being sick. Still got painful periods. Through the months it's got better the 2nd month of it I had a light period lasted 2 days which was really good and I was so pleased. Before I started the pill my periods would be 5-7 days so this pill has made my periods shorter and lighter. So I'm hoping in a week it carries on with the lighter and shorter periods. I've been getting diarrhoea which it could be causing me to have. hopefully I'm still protected. I went on this pill to gain weight, help get rid of irregular periods etc. makes you not stop eating

Well I started on this pill 2 months ago and it has made me into an absolute state.....I never thought it was the pill but after reading this I am shocked!!
My 2 year relationship ended yesterday because of my mood swings and agressivness which was appering n...the last 2 months!!

i havent been on this pill long..its been 10 days so nearly 2 weeks, i has already noticed my boobs gettin bigger but they are sore too..whether this is to do with still being on my period i dont know, im 17 and started using cerazette when i was 16, everything was fine for a while and then i constantly felt sick. i didnt know it was due to the pill so i continued to take it, then when i stopped the sickness went too, that was the only side affect i had with that pill.
but due to alot of pregnancy scares i started back on the pill again and chose microgynon. bigger boobs already

I started this pill in August last year (2007), and since have been extremly depressed. I have been snapping at everyone, and crying over such stupid petty things. Some mornings id wake up feeling as if a weight was over me keeping me down, for no reason!. Me and my boyfriend were having troubles in the bedroom as i never seemed to get in the mood, and everything just seemed to irriate me, whereas before i was always bugging him =]. Today i decided i have had enough and went to the doctors to ask for a change, as i have read that so many people are experincing the same problems as me. My doctor says it is unlikely that my pill is causing these symptons, but sooooo many other people seem to be saying the same things after they have started using this pill. She has now put me on Loestrin 20 which i have heard good things so i am hoping for the best. Know when you will get a period.

i've been wondering why i've recently turned into an ogre. i suffer from depression and take fluoxtine which works great, have also recently started back on microgynon, and feel as depressed now as i did before the anti-depressants. god knows what shape i would be in without the fluoxetine. sex drive is also low. my skin seems clear, after a few weeks of extreme spotiness snappy

I have been on Microgynon for the last 4 months and I hate it! I was on Yasmin before this and felt 100 times better. When I came over here from Australia I was told by the Doctor that here in England they use Microgynon so I changed. Ever since being on this pill I am very emotional, I have put on alot of weight and thus had to buy a new wardrobe of clothes and my skin has been no better even though I drink loads of water. I was on this pill for just over 2 months then changed to cileste. i wish I had changed sooner! It was a bit of a nightmare from start to finish, I felt sick constantly and at one point lost weight (not good) because I simply couldn't eat. I tried taking it at different times of day (I read somewhere if you take it at night the nausea happens overnight so you don't notice it) and would wake up and be sick instead. Obviously it is different for different people but I would not recommend it. - boobs were very slightly bigger

I am very concerned at my weight gain since being put on Microgynon a year ago. I have gone from a healthy 10 stone to a very unattractive 11 stone. I have been on microgynon 30 since i was 16! (i'm now 23)I was put on it to regulate my menstrual cycle due to being anorexic for 3 years! When i started on it I was told that my periods would be light and less painful. They were actually the total opposite! I have been able to cope with it though and am still on it. For the past 5 years, my now fiance has dreaded the time of the month as I get really emotional and cry at everything. I am always snapping at the slightest thing and suffer from anxiety! I have recently noticed that I am getting increasingly anxious that when i come off the pill and we decide to start a family, that i will be unable to conceive! I am changing to another contraceptive asap as I can't wait to be a mother and this would break my heart! I thought it was just me being daft but since reading all the reviews I realise it's this pill! I've never had a pregnancy scare!

I'm 18 and have been on Microgynon 30 for about a year and a half now due to heavy periods and severe pains. Some months I wouldn't be able to leave the house for days because I was doubled up in pain, and Microgynon 30 has greatly improved this. My periods are very light and last no longer than 5 days and I have hardly any cramps at all! Also, my older sister went through a number of different pills before finding the right one for her, so I really am pleased to have found the perfect one from the word go!

I'm a bit disappointed, and a little worried to hear so many people complain of emotional side effects. I've always been quite emotional and a little paranoid at times, but I don't think this has actually increased at all since I've been on the pill. I'm supposing this may happen when you have been taking the same pill for a longer period of time than me? If that's the case hopefully I'll just be able to change packs and find a different one that suits me as I mature. - Much lighter period

And if it doesn't work for you, see your GP and try out a different one.

I was put on Microgynon 30 after being steralized, as i started to get heavier periods to the point were i was house bound for 2-3 days due to flooding !!! I was very upset as this was the last thing i wanted, what was the point in being steralized and then being put on the pill !!! lighter periods

I am 25 and have been taking Microgynon since I was 16.
This pill has been effective in its job - I have never fallen pregnant. However, since I hit my 20s I have experienced side effects.
I recently spoke with my GP who says the pill was effective for me as a teenager, but doesn't have the same effect now I have matured.
This pill is the oldest of its kind and is cheap and easy to produce, hence why it is a popular choice for GPs. - No changes in weight

Im 20 years old and have been on microgynon since i was 13 due to severe pains when menstruating. After reading these reviews i have come to the conclusion that its the pill to blame for most of my paranoia, and mood swings. Although i have learned to handle these to a certain extent, my poor boyfriend though, he sometimes feels my pain too haha.

I have been using Mircogynon 30 since I was about 18/19, I am now 22. This pill suits me, I have no side effects BUT the first month was hell!!! I had been with my boyfriend for about 2years and i seriously think that we could of split up. I was all over the place, I could have committed murder! At one point I suddenly slammed the brakes on in the car, stopped in the middle of the road and started crying...luckily it was late at night and there were no other cars around!! I didn't think I would stay on it, but I gave it a couple of months and it all worked out fine!! Can run pill packets back to back for a couple of months meaning that you have a period when you want.
No PMS symtoms like I used to suffer from.
Have a 12 hour window to take it in for it still to be effective. The first HORRIBLE month!!!!! Be prepared for the first month!! Once you're past that you should be ok!! You really need to give this pill chance and a bit of time to settle in your body!!

My doctor put me on the pill nearly 3 month ago, to ease period pains, a contraceptive and to remove discomfort throughout exams.

She suggested that I took 3 packets (3 months) and then took a break, making me have a period just 4 times a year. -No intense pains

I have only been on microgynon for a month but have seen such a severe change in my emotional state I can't cope with it any more. I was previously on Yasmin but this made me sick if I so much and smelled alcohol, and my sex drive plummetted (which kind of defeats the object) Since changing to Microgynon I haven't had any sickness or nausea which is good and I can have a drink or two if I want, and my sex drive is back much to my boyfriend's delight.

However.... I cannot stop crying (so much that my eyes are always sore and puffy) which is affecting my work and more importantly my relationship with my boyfriend. It also makes it hard to drive when your eyes well up for no reason and you can't see anything. My self esteem has gone from feeling really content and happy, to rock bottom for no other reason. I am constanly suspicious and paranoid and am seeing the worst in everyone. I know this may sound petty but I have become extremely needy and clingy to my boyfriend and can't cope when he goes out the door which really isn't fair on him. And finally I Haven't been sleeping well since taking this pill and wake up really early but can't get back to sleep which isn't helping.

In short, I would rather have bad period pain and all the physical side effects than feel like I do now as it's just not worth it. No nausea

I'm 22 years old and have been taking Microgynon 30 for nearly 3 months. The first month was awful, firstly my period took 2 weeks to finish after I started taking the pills (although it got very light towards the end).

I started getting very emotional; crying at anything, paranoid about getting pregnant. Also felt slightly sick during the first month and felt depressed. Usually none of the above affects me and it wasn't until I found this site that I realised that the pill was causing all of this. I was tempted to stop taking after the first month, but decided to ride it out and do the whole 3 month pack.

Fortunately Month 2 was a big improvement. Emotionally I felt better, wasn't getting as worked up over nothing. Nausea had disappeared. I'm now coming to the end of the 3rd month, but periods are very regular (but they were before anyway), starting approximately 2 or 3 days into my 'break'. Also, much shorter than before and also lighter. Good contraceptive

Worth a try, I'm prepared to do another 3 month pack and see how it goes. I was encouraged by the improvements I noticed once I got through the first (hellish) month.

If you want to try Microgynon 30 be aware of the acute side effects. My advice would be to try to get through a couple of months and watch for an improvement.

This pill turned me into a total pyhsco!

I was fine at first and impressed by my bigger boobs....

However, I then found myself flying off the handle at the smallest thing, snapping at my mum and my boyfriend over nothing. Feeling totally stressed for no reason, as if my head was split in half, one side of my brain was saying 'chill out, it's not a big deal you witch' but the other half was not allowing me to be anything but a big old bitch, whining and throwing my toys out of the pram over NOTHING!

Then I got to the stage that i'd see my reflection in a shop window and start to cry because I was such an fat, obese, ugly creature with short legs.. though everyone around me told me i'd not put on any weight (and i'm 5'8" and have never thought I had short legs before!).....

I wore track pants and hoodies for a whole month, my poor boyfriend!! I was convinced I looked like a heffer in everything!

If I couldn't find a ruler i'd cry! Absolutely everything became this huge deal to me... absolute nutjob!

Didn't help my periods AT ALL either.... I was in MORE pain and they were heavier and longer than ever (and aside from contraception I went on the pill to regulate my periods)...

ALSO was five days late whilst on this pill!!! My periods had been working like clockwork (a bitch when they came but at least it was on time).. however, randomly my period came late.... I was terrified! However, could've just been stress related.... the stress this pill was CAUSING me!!... So bit of a catch 22.

I am very shocked that doctors are not more open about the emotional side effects of this pill. Thanks you for every body who has been honest on here. Nothing worth mentioning considering the very bad emotional side effect I suffered from this pill. Its stolen the last year and a half of my life. Waves of anxiety

This pill was horrific! I turned into an absolute mess. I spent about 3 months trying not to cry. I just didn't know why I was so sad all the time and kept trying to make excuses about things that were worrying me. Everything seemed 'black' and felt like it was never going to get better. Then thank God my mum suggested it might be the pill I was on so I went to my GP and right away she said its the pill, we'll change it. I just wish I'd realised what it was earlier because, like I said, I had 3 months of feeling like a psycho. No babies

Wish I'd realised sooner that it was the pill that was making me feel so depressed, I thought I was turning into a monster. Don't bother with this pill, I know it can different effects on different people but it made me feel mentally unstable.

I'm 19 and I've been taking Microgynon30 for over a year now. I am only just realising that the way I've been feeling & my behaviour has been caused by the pill. I have a few problems with depression already but I've noticed that it seems to coincide with my week of not taking the pill. My mood plummets very severely; I always want to cry, I get extremely paranoid about my boyfriend cheating on me (though he's never given me a reason to think this), I get very angry and I find myself taking out my moods on everyone around me- which they don't deserve. There is no reason for the crying- nothing has happened to make me upset, I'm sure it's the pill, I just didn't make the link before and after reading these reviews it's confimed my thoughts. I'm planning to change to a different pill because I don't think it's really worth feeling this low for.
Other than that it's been really good, it's just a shame that the bad point is very bad for me! no pregnancy

It's a good pill but it's not working out for me and hasn't for a lot of people obviously. For me, the bad points outweigh the good.

I've only been on Microgynon for 2 weeks. I started taking it at the right time and you know.... I havent stopped my period yet! Im well angry. Maybe i just have to get used to it :/

I have been on a pill two separate times for several years. Now its about a year. If I reflect, I am a little moody person even without a pill, and my appetite, well I just loooove food. I lost 11 kilo's (no idea what is that in stones or pounds) while I was on this pill in summer. I also gained some back in winter, due to less exercise and more intake of energy. Headaches, I have those sometimes, but wouldn't say it is the pill. I got worried when I was taking pill and had no bleeding for 3 months.. I got off, but few years later got on again.. cause I have irregular periods anyways.
Now its normal again.
Bloated I get... but I guess it's more the food than the pill. I might be just easy going with the pill.
Lighter and shorter periods, skin and hair the same, good protection against pregnancy, regular period, eased PMS, loosing weight does not go easy anymore, but could be increasing age, or weaker will,
maybe mood swings - but as I sad, I am a little moody person anyways...
The pill is easy going with me, as my body is with it, but since we all are different... watch out then.

I’ve been on Microgynon since I was 17, I’m now 25. I’ve not experienced any bodily changes, and in my experience it’s worked effectively as a contraceptive pill, as well as shortening my period to 4 days and stopping any pains. Libido and weight are fine (but sadly no increase in breast size). However, after reading all these reviews, I’m now wondering whether my aggressiveness, impatience and short temperedness towards my boyfriend and members of my family aren't just an innate personality traits… Does what it says on the box

I’ve never had any noticeable problems whilst taking this pill, but I now need to convince my nearest and dearest that I really am a sweetheart! I would carry on taking it but fancy a pop at Dianette

I started taking the pill in July 2005. The nurse failed to mention the more extreme emotional side effects Microgynon 30 (or combined pills with progesterone) can have as it only affects a few women. According to the nurse, ‘few’ is 0.1%, but according to my doctor ‘few’ is up to 10%! So I feel it necessary to tell my story, because if I had known what I do now back then, my life could be taking a very different path...a path, at least I had chosen.

Being unaware of such emotional side effects, as women do, I blamed myself for the change in my personality.

I spoke to my doctor and she identified my side effects as a result of the pill stating that my reaction was extreme, but by no means only me. The progesterone in the pill inhibits the production of testosterone, which is the hormone that carries the signals to use the rational part of your brain. Further, progesterone is known to cause depression. No wonder I was a walking emotional wreck...I wasn’t able to use my brain! If you conduct your own research on the web, there are more than a ‘few’ cases citing some / all of the above emotional side effects if not more! For me, reading other women’s experiences and relating was setting me free. It was like the answer I had been crying for, for the last three years of my life. This is NOT me. (That's why I have further detailed what I went through to help any other women going through what I did). • Reduced my physical pain;
• Reduced duration of period;
• Clearer Skin. • Extreme emotional behaviour - found myself crying at anything, getting overly heated, acting out of panic;
• Anger, sometimes with no sense of control, sometimes morphing into aggression;
• Continuous waves of anxiety;
• Depression so severe and deep that you question life and yourself. It actually became a daily struggle to try to be happy or pretend to be. It's like a different mindset and becomes an inescapable mind trap;
• Suicidal thoughts - with all the above to contend with and no ability to see light or even believe you can get out of it, death feels like an option to set your mind free. Would not recommend this pill. Here's my (detailed) story why...

The unjust thing about the side emotional effects is that women take the pill without fully being briefed of them. And anyone knows emotional stability is key to the health of any relationship you have, especially, the one you have with yourself. And the spill over effect (from the emotional side effects) only surface in you and your closest relationships...

Truth is I don’t think sufficient research has been conducted on the emotional side effects. Why? Firstly women don’t like to admit THEY are emotionally out of control. Until now I thought I was crazy, hysterical loon and too ashamed to admit that. Secondly, emotions are so subjective leaving no physical evidence behind, but just shuddering memories of negative experiences. Thirdly, emotions are a result of a number of intricate and interlinked factors and therefore, you can never really attribute it one cause i.e. the pill in isolation. In my case, the pill was the catalyst, making any testing situation lose control. Speaking to other girls and even girl’s boyfriends (more girls seemed to have gone through a negative experience than I expected!!!!) and until you have been through it, most can’t emphasise.

And what is sad, is that I find myself having to recover and rebuild from issues I knew were not ‘me.’ Others that were once close, who experienced the brunt of the side effects, can’t distinguish between your personality and the pill when the majority of time together has been dominated by the pill’s side effects. And when the pill disguises itself as your outward behaviour i.e. you, an uncontrolled chain of events and reactions can happen and it can completely alter that fate that you were after. I remember (pre pill) knowing that my life experiences had taught me enough to handle testing situations with strength and principle. And I used to be able to do that in a dignified way! And then when I was on the pill, I was so emotionally carried away that I was unable to actually apply those life lessons! Although I would incessantly question why I was this way now unable to live and learn, I never found an acceptable answer. So I would hopelessly search for a solution but as they never worked, I just hated who I had become, believing I couldn’t be helped (since I didn’t know the cause, I didn’t know the cure)! Until now. When I was questioned about 'What had got into me?' I should have answered literally! I believe and even know that it was the pill that caused me to lose control emotionally and time is telling.

Some reading this may take a sceptical view assuming I’m using the pill as an excuse. I am an emotional person so I’m sure my reaction was more pronounced. But, pre July 2005, I was effortlessly happy and now (having been off the pill since 23.04.08), I do not feel angry, anxious or depressed. The tears are almost gone and I think myself ludicrous to have ever been enchanted by thoughts of death. I feel back in control, even after breaking off with my boyfriend (of over 3 years, who I loved so deeply). And of course, whilst I’m hurting over the loss of what could and should have been back then and now, I am gaining perspective, so I am no longer so emotionally possessed that the only thing I do is feel depressed or suicidal.

And with my mind set free of that, I’m slowly feeling good about ME for the first time in a long time...So I know being off the ‘psycho pill’ is only a positive.


The advice that I can offer fresh from my experience is the following: (and please note I am no professional)
• Is there a real need for you to go on the pill?;
• Do your research. (Use the internet, the clinics, speak with other women, doctors, nurses etc).
• If you have any history of any emotional instability, consult your doctor. Really suggest that you know and listen to your body, mind (and intuition!!!) and communicate any hint of concern to the doctor so that they can find the right pill for you;
• Once you are on the pill, monitor your physical and emotional reaction to it. Keep a diary! If you find you are not being yourself, consult your doctor immediately;
• Many girls have had no reaction to the pill and in fact state many positive factors. You, of course, could more than likely be one of them.

Anyway, the whole objective of revealing such a private painful experience, is so that women are AWARE. So women can make an INFORMED CHOICE – I did not give consent to take a pill which I feel has stolen three years of my personality and life - I had no chance of being my true self. And I don’t want any other woman to go through what I did.

I have been on this pill for 7 years, since I was 18. It was the first pill I was given. Had no problems. My sister and sister in law on it with no problems. But saying that, my friend has had very bad side effects with every pill she has tried! (about eight in total) She's given up on the pill now! I guess everyone is different. Came off the pill four weeks ago to try for a baby and.... pregant already! Very Light periods (was always very heavy prior)

No period pain None for me, except slight nausea sometimes. All in all, for me, a good pill. Don't be scared to try it - but bear in mind that everyone is different so you just have to find out whats best for you.

I was given Microgynon 30 Contraceptive Pill after i had unprotected sex with my boyfriend which meant me having to take the emergency contraceptive pill (levonell) however since being on Microgynon my sex drive has decreased which is annoying especially since my boyfriend's sex drive is very high, having said that though when we do have sex atlease I dont have to worry about getting pregnant! - Prevents pregnancy

It does its job and prevents pregnancy and it also lightens periods however there are also side effects to taking this pill, so if anyone is considering in taking in just be prepared for them.

Been on Microgynon 30 for about 6 months now. No major problems. Didn't enjoy the first few weeks (feeling sick and that I had every side effect listed!) but get on fine with it now. No baby.

If I take it at night I end up waking up about 5am and CANNOT get back to sleep which is really frustrating. If I take it in the morning then it tends to make me feel sick during the day. Compared to others I seem to have got on quite well with Microgynon, but have not tried any others to be able to compare it with. Apart from the sleep issue, still happy to continue taking it.

If any one is considering this pill, i can honestly advise you to stay clear from it. However, this pill works different to everyone. I first started using this pill and it was quite an excitable moment, until i turned into the biggest nutcase you would have ever met. i have only just started taking this pill, for about 2 weeks now, but I am not happy with what it's doing to me. I dont know whether it's too early to go to the GP (though I didn't go to the GP in the first place, but to a family planning clinic where they have no time for you and open for only open 2 hours a week). no baby NO SEX DRIVE! is it just me, or is this the most significant problem with this pill? kind of defeats the object of being on a contraceptive doesn't it! Not only that, but sex is incredibly PAINFUL! It feels like the first day of my period used to feel... tight and sore, and like my muscles down there are trying to push him away. How long should I give it before changing? Too early to say, but so far not happy, though it may be teething problems.

I've been on this pill for just under a year now and its the only contraceptive pill i've ever been on. So far, its pretty good! My boobs are getting huge! Went up 2 cup sizes!
My acne prone skin just looks better all the time.
Easy to take as theyre only really small. I've put on well over a stone, verging on two stone over the past year. But I can deal with it. Probably why I have massive boobs! Go for it! If you don't mind weight gain that is!

Started it last year, Had quite bad mood swings (mainly attacks of anxiety) and nausea in the first month but that has all gone and my periods are much light, i dont get PMS or any pain and im not pregnant so far suggesting its working! -Regular periods

I have been on this pill for around a year now. I can gladly say i am not experiencing any major side effects, and its working great. i went on it to regulate my periods and as a contraceptive, both of which are now sorted!.. my periods have shortened, from 7 to 5 days, and are mainly light. however my last period was quite heavy. my boobs have grown, from a B - D in a year (boyfriends happy, but costs me money!!) and my skin is normal.. only really break out in spots when stressed, or after having lots to drink!

I was put on the pill about 2 years ago to regulate and ease my periods.. After a few months, my GP took me off of them as I was suffering headaches.

I was put on Microgynon 30 last September after my Dr thought I may have Endometriosis. I was 17 when I was put on, and I'm now 18...I'm going back to the Dr in a few weeks to try to change!

I experienced weight gain atc but thought it was all in my head! & I was just suffering from PMS (even though I had NEVER suffered from it before!!)...after reading reviews from you guys - clearly this is not the case... 1. Reduced a lot of my period pain - I used to be crying and wailing in agony. Paracetamol & other meds simply didn't work.
2. Made my periods shorter (from 7 days, to 5) & no where near as heavy.
3. Easy to take 1. Sore boobs

3. Tiredness, unable to sleep
4. Sickness, stomach aches - the sickness was mostly present from the last few pills in the pack through til the day I came on
5. Over emotional - I work on the telephones at work, so crying because someone is being a bit off is NOT good. Luckily I have supportive bosses.
6. Moody - shouting at someone because the door in the house was left open. Or the fish weren't fed...
7. Headaches
8. Weight gain - eating more. Bloating. Even though the pain and heavyness of my periods have been reduced (which, initially were my main concern)- I'm left being an over emotional, nasty person who eats too much & moans because she feels sick.

Everyone's body is different I guess, but I personally wouldn't reccomend this to anyone.

i was on microgynon for 3 months before changing to dianette to help with my skin. - didnt get pregnant - depression - i have a family history of severe depression and despite telling my doctor this he still put me on this pill.

My daughter whos 17 was given this to help with bad period pain. Within the 2 months of taking it she totally changed from a happy fun person into an emotional and physical wreck!
Experiencing sleepless nights and when she did sleep was having bad nightmares, was stressing, snappy with uncontrolable tears. From the start of the second month she was suffering with migraines - something shes never had before. Gained weight and couldn't cope with who she'd become and her skin changed from being clear to dry with a spotty rash all over her face. She stopped taking them at the end of the second month. Said she'd rather suffer with the period pain than ever take them again.

None Had the worst period cramps I have ever had in my life. I was crying my eyes out. Had the usual 5 day period, then carried on on and off on my 2 week holiday , not ideal!! Horrible

im 17 and have been on the microgynon for about 5 month,at first i was fine with it, it was a great method of contraception and now my periods work like clock - work,but i have noticed a gain in weight. On my seven day break the weight seems to drop off me and as soon as i go back on it,it seems to pile on again :( Im starting to think about coming off it,but because im in a relationship i will have to find a good way of contraception before i do. easy to take and remember

I started taking microgynon as a way of regulating my periods and for contraceptive purposes. i'm into my third week of taking it and to be honest i'm not loving it. i've been on my period constantly since taking it and today is as heavy as my normal period should be. i put on 2 and a half lbs in a week despite following slimming world and using the gym regularly and have felt fat and bloated constantly since taking it. tonight is my 'weighing night' and it's the tester to whether i'm going to carry on taking it or not, if i've put on again despite again exercising and eating healthily i'm coming off it. thankfully i'm not in a relationship so it's not a necessity contraception wise and i don't think any one could take the mood swings i've been having lately. i've felt so down lately and can swing from being happy to sad in the blink of an eye.

I have been on the pill for about 4 years now. I am only 18, but having such bad period pain, i needed something to help me out!!! If you suffer with bad stomach and back ache and your bleeding is heavy, i would recommend mefenamic acid tablets. They help out loads! Really easy to take.

Tired a lot of the time, despite having large amounts of sleep I'm fortunate that microgynon hasn't affected my mood massively, but i'm still uncomfortable with the side effects it gives, and am therefore considering stopping taking it. Having researched other pill types, they are all generally just as risky with side effects as microgynon, and I don't think it would be good to go through all of this again. I might just stick to condoms, or find a different reliable form of contraception.

I'm 18 and I've been on Microgynon 30 for 2 and a bit years now. Yes, perhaps I've become more emotional and maybe a tad more anxious (have always been a worrier though!) and stressy, but it's regulated my periods a treat! Although, take into account that I'm still a hormone riddled teenager who is at Uni & has a few worries to tackle, so I might not be a fair judge of what the pill has changed mentally! At first I remember feeling sick & horrid, but I stuck with it and I'm so glad I did! As long as you take it everyday around the same time you generally have less worries to add to the pile! ~ no babies!

I would recommend this pill to anyone! My sisters use it, my friends use it...we're all ok with it! True it might make some ladies get a bit scary, but we're all a bit scary anyway! :D To be honest, if you get on with this pill, the changes are easy to deal with! They haven't found perfection yet! Good luck to those who are going a different route though, I hope you get on better with one of the other pills/options xx

I am 18 years old & have suffered from heavy and painful periods throughout my teens. I started taking microgynon about 2 months ago (first time on the pill) and have just finished my second packet. This pill has done nothing for me! My periods are just as heavy, if not more & they are still painful. Before taking microgynon, my periods affected my social life and basically made me feel like shit. I am going back to my GP to hopefully change pill. Eh..I get it for free (but not really any help as its not working for me)

im now 17 when i started to take Microgynon i was 16 i had to come off it 3 months ago as i would cry at anything i would be really moody and i felt sick alot. i also got pregnant on it. my sister has also got pregnant on it twice. i now take brevinor and i am coming off that as i also found it the same but it does protect you like it says.

I went on the pill in January on a 3 month trial basis (which is now up). I was recommended Microgynon by my GP because of my terrible period pains, and PMT. I used to be laid up for two days in bed because of the pain. I was unsure of going on the pill because of all the stories you hear of excessive weight gain (something I actually needed really and it worked) and lack of sex drive. I've decided though the pill is not for me personally as it makes me feel quite low in the bedroom but it does have its plus points and I may consider Microgynon again in the future if my periods are to cause me pain. I was actually happy with the weight I gained (half a stone) as I am normally very skinny. Big Boobs!

Coming off it makes you feel very sick (personal opinion) Worth it if your periods are eratic and cause you great pain and mess, and are unpredictable. Not really nessescary other than for contraceptive purposes or you need to put on the odd few pounds.

I been on the pill for about 4 years now and it has made such a difference! I got it for contraceptive reasons and also cos I used to suffer bad period pains. I find easy to take and it has made my period pains non existent. I've never suffered the symptoms others seem to have such as loss of libido or weight gain. The only side effect i do suffer is i tend to get headaches for the first 2 days i come off the pill but its nothing a couple of nurofen won't solve! My mum and sister are also on this pill and haven't suffered any side effects and I have recently recommended it to a friend. If your thinking of goin on the pill don't let the bad reviews put u off too much - at least give it a go and if its not the right one for you, i'm sure your doctor can find you another type. *easy to take

I have been on and off Microgynon since I was 16, I am now 21 and have been taking it this time round for around 6 months. It is purely for contraceptive reasons however, I have noticed positive effects with my mensural cycle too. I can see there is a lot of negative comments that will put a lot of girls using this pill. It is understandable as people will have different reactions to the ingredients.

Personally, I see no problems with this pill whatsoever. Although I have gained some weight - I genuinely feel this is down to growing up! and I have been able to lose some of that weight along the way. I still have the same sex drive (if not better!), I do have mood swings (but doesn't every woman?), I have the same lack of concentration and motivation as any other student out there!

I have a few friends and relatives who are also on the same pill and they have no major problems. Perhaps some of these things will be emphasised slightly but it can be partially psychological. If you can get beyond that then you can enjoy having a great sex life and secure contraceptive! Prevents pregnancy

Hi, I'm really glad to have found this site, so I know it's definitely the pill that's causing my problems! I've been on it for about 1.5 months now, not that long, and I'm willing to keep it going for at least 2 months to give it a chance. However I think it has affected me alot. I get strong headaches, dizziness and a small amount of nausea in the first few days of taking it after my 7 day break. But the moodiness (which I would say is more depression than just moodiness) lasts all the time.

Like most people, I cry at the drop of a hat, but I also find my work is really affected by the pill. When I hand an essay in, I get very paranoid that it's really bad and when I do get a bad mark I'm absolutely gutted and find it hard to move on and extremely hard to get motivated to do my next assingments. It sounds really sad to be like this and I know it's not really me at all! So yeah I'm looking to come off this pill asap!. erm..... lovely green packaging. having to wake myself up at the same time every morning to take it (but that's the same with any pill really)

I am a 20 year old woman who started Microgynon 30 two months ago, purely for contraceptive reasons. I noticed an immediate increase in appetite which led has led to pretty massive weight gain. I've gained 6 kilos in the past two months, which is pretty horrific especially considering that i'm only 5'5". It's also affected my libido, I have hardly any sex drive now. *mood swings My advice is don't go near Microgynon 30. Although it works for some, most of my friends have had very bad experiences on it. It is rare that somebody has no problems with Microgynon. Once you try it the chances are you'll put on weight very quickly, and it's difficult to lose it. So why take the chance - ask your doctor to put you on a different pill that contains gestodene, as this is a type of progesterone that will not affect your appetite.

i've been taking the pill for about just over a week now,

i'm 16 and am taking it purely to regulate my periods, after finding them an inconvenience when 15+ days late and very painful.

my doc has put me on microgynon 30, i thought it would be fine as my sister is on the same one. However yesterday, i became possessed at school, after having an argument with my art teacher, i was ready to break down, but i held it in, last lesson i had self defence and found myself playful, yet actually wanting to hurt my friends.

i came home, and went off on one to my mum i then started to tear up, she advised me to go to my room and get changed out of my uniform, i sat on my own in the dark, crying and frustrated, i then calmed myself down, returned downstairs to my mum, she hugged me, to which i broke down again, my other sister said that my mood change may be down to the hormone filled pill. i hadn't thought of this.

my other sister returned home and i asked her if she had experianced anything similar. she told me that she hadbeen fine but her friend, foun dherself crying all the time.

Now after reading reviews on here, im about certain im on the wrong pill, and i also find myself even more irritable and angry now acknowledged about weight gain.

I went on this pill over a year ago after suffering From extremely painful periods (sickness,fainting etc). i did experience mood swings for the First Few months, however only realized there may have been a connection when the mood swings and hormonal outbursts began too settle. I also experienced some dizziness in the First period of using it. My periods were much better whilst i was on this pill, they were lighter, less painful and shorter. I felt fine when i was on this pill for most of the year and no more crazy than usual :) However, in the last 3 or 4 months n the first day of my period on my 7 day break i have been experiencing extreme vomiting and nausea. After battling on i decided that i couldn't carry on with the sickness and being bed ridden every month so i have now been prescribed Yasmin. Haven't tried it yet But hopefully it will agree with my stomach! -Lighter periods

I first started taking this pill when I was 20 and had absolutley no problems with it at all. I gained a lot of weight but attributed that simply to bad diet and lack of excercise. I came off it 6 months before I got married as I became a total homocidal maniac. Again I attributed that to planning a wedding. I've been off it 5 years now and have lost 7 stone...again didn't think it was entirely down to just this pill. I went back on it last week and since then have somehow gained 2.5lb in the space of a week (have no idead how this happened seeing the past week it's given me vomiting and diorreah) Im so hungry all the time that I feel physically sick. I'm tired. I'm so dizzy it feels like im on a boat. I thought it was all in my head. I though the fact that I've had the worst period of my life in the past week was just a fluke. But thanks to this forum I now know this just isn't for me. I'd rather do without sex cause the way it makes me feel....sex is the last thing i need or want! Everyone has a different experience on this pill - some of my friends have had a good experience on it - however I really didn't. I started taking Microgynon 30 when I was 19 and was on it for just over two years. For the first few months I was fine, but then I started to become irratible and slighlty depressed. I put it down to university so didn't worry too much. A year on, I was crying all the time - though again I just put it down to university, being broke etc. However by this time my sex drive was seriously dwindling. Depression I can handle, but considering my sex drive had always been tiptop it really worried me. My wonderful goregous boyfriend was so understanding but it did put a strain on us. I refused to believe it was because there was a problem with our relationship.

Also, I wasn't feeling well at all - I got more headaches and became more prone to infections. Don't know whether that was linked! I lost a few friends due to the depression and panic attacks (which I have always had on and off) were very severe and doctor got me on counselling which was pointless. It wasn't long before my sex drive had completely disappeared and the depression was herrendous. I even fell out with my best friend of 18 years for five months! Plus side - periods were awsome - for the first time they didn't hurt like crazy and weren't stupidly heavy.

I decided to come off the pill and within a few months my depression had eased, infections gone, headaches disappeared. Sex drive - two years on is now making one hell of a comeback - more than proving it wasn't that I wasn't attracted to my boyfriend. I just know all the above was caused by the pill or at the very least, incredibly aggravated by it - i'm never going back on that or any other pill ever again. Just not worth it. Not pregnant

I was on Dianette for around 4 years with absolutely no problems. However my doctor said that I'd been on them for far too long, and made me come off them. Went onto Microgynon instead, started using it around 6 months ago. Periods are still great - no PMS and have very short, light periods which is great... however my main problem with this pill is that it has totally robbed me of my sex drive. This is causing major problems in my relationship as my boyfriend thinks I dont fancy him anymore. This isnt the case at all, I do, but i'd rather just have a cuddle than sex, and when we do have sex, I cant get lubricated. Went back to the doctors to tell them about the problem Microgynon is causing, and they told me that out of all the pills on the market, Microgynon has the lowest odds of causing loss of libido so she said if i came off it she didnt know what else to try me on!!! Short, very light periods Total loss of sex drive. Only bad point is the loss of libido but to me, thats a major problem

I have been taking this pill on and off since I was about 15 - I am now 38. I have a three year old daughter, and whilst trying to concieve her, was the only time I have had a break from taking the pill.

I have today been prescribed a change of pill (to something with the lovely name of Yasmin) because I have become a nightmare to live with. I am constantly nagging at my husband and daughter, which starts around two weeks before my period is due. I am moody, irritable, and could easily rip off the head of anyone who dares to get in my way.

I have always been a bit of a moody mare - after reading the reviews of all you ladies, perhaps this pill is the reason.

I have suffered depression and anxiety over the years, panic attacks, lethargy, tiredness, weight gain, been moody, unpredicatable, ratty and downright horrible to those people who I love and care about.

I never thought until recently that any of my previous behaviuour could have been to do with taking the pill - how could I have been so wrong for all these years.....

I have read reviews about the pill Yasmin and am unsure as to whether to take that either!

My GP today has said that Yasmin does not give you the mood swings that other pills can, but some reviews I have read have made me think twice about whether I want to take this pill at all.

I am not yet ready to say my childbearing days are over and I would like to have a second child before I am 40, but at present and with the way I feel every month, now may not be the best time to try for another child.

I hope everyone who experiences any kind of negative side effects with their pill seeks to make some changes, I am only hoping that my doctor is right and Yasmin makes me feel much better......

I had spent a number of years off the pill until about 2 and a half year ago, after an unplanned pregnancy, resulting in our beautiful daughter. I went back on the pill and on to Microgynon because it is low dose. I cannot recommend it, I cannot recommend the pill to women in general. We are putting synthetic hormones in our body, which trick the body into thinking we are pregnant. Now I have 2 kids and pregnant women are not always level headed anyway, so why are we putting this crap in our body voluntarily?

Microgynon is a monophasic pill which releases the same level of hormones for the 21 days we take it (7 days of sugar pills) which does not mimic what normally occurs in a womans body. Our hormones fluctuate and you may notice off the pill, during days 8-20, you may feel frisky and especially keen for sex, this is because your body wants you to get pregnant, because it is getting ready/or is ready. When we take the pill, it inhibits the production of androgens, including testosterone, in a woman’s ovaries. Androgens have a direct effect on the pleasure that you experience during sexual intercourse. Additionally, the birth control pill also appears to increase the amount of sex-hormone binding globulin (SHBG) in the body. SHBG is a protein that binds to testosterone, preventing a woman’s body from using it effectively. High levels of SHBG have been directly linked to decreased libido and sexual desire.

I suffer from depression, anxiety, low energy levels, low libido, weight gain and generally become a whole different person. It is so depressing to know that womens choices are so ridiculous. I mean, a doctor will then offer you a different choice, which also usually involves synthetic hormones. I'm so tired of the merry go round.

In 3 days I will be going off the pill, I will start using progesterone cream to level my body out, start practicing the Standard Days method and using condoms. This will be until my husband decides to have a Vasectomy or I can get hold of more information regarding a new key-hole surgery and reversible procedure available (at extreme cost) which I have recently heard of.

I recently read, whilst researching the pill, that the male pill has been perfected, proved over 15 years that it is reversible and has the same effectiveness as the womens pill. Pharmaceutical companies are not interested because they also make money off the anti-depressants that are prescribed to women who present with depression BECAUSE of the pill! Ive only been taking the pill for just over a week now, but already i feel like absolute crap, and just want to kill everyone who gets in my way. At first i thought i was turning into a psycho, but now after reading these reviews ive found that its more common than i first thought. I feel constantly tired, and have stupidly bad stomach cramps too, and feel sick frequently. My self confidence has been inialated too, and im not the happy go lucky person i once was, who loved to go out and have a good time. I just want to sit on my own now and not speak to people. Even the smallest social event feels like a chore.
I think i'll try and ride the pill out for a bit, a month maybe, and if things get worse then i'll be swapping pills before i commit murder. No pregnancy. *BAD mood swings.

I'm 15, and have only been taking Microgynon 30 for 3 weeks. I took my first pill on the first day of my period, and usually my periods only last for about a week, but I had my week period like I usually do, then I came back on my period 2 days later, so you could pretty much say I've had a 3 week period. I was also taking the anti-depressant St. Johns Wort before I was on the pill, but I had to stop taking that because it stops Microgynon 30 working properly, so I've been more tearful than usual. Yesterday I went for a lovely long walk with my new husband & dog, the sun was shining and it was almost spring like, walking along I was thinking how lucky I was. I got home opened the fridge and saw that a carton of juice hadn't been done up properly & a little had leaked out - enter complete meltdown, absolute irrational cross-ness at the (very small) mess in the fridge. I started taking Microgynon 30 at the age of 16, I took it for a approximately a year and I then switched to the Depo Vera contraceptive injection as I was having difficulties remembering to take the pills but that was more down to my age.

I took Depo Vera for 2 and half years and started experiencing terrible mood swings so after a bit of a break from anything, I went back to Microgynon 30.

I haven't experienced any weight gain in the year and a half that i've been taking it again and haven't had any other side effects. Following my last two periods, I've bled between 7 and 12 days into my pill cycle which can be a sign of ovulation which Microgynon is meant to stop altogether, this concerns me about it's relaiability although I haven't previously had any pregnancy scares or problems of any kind and the bleeding may not be related to the pill so I wouldn't want tp put anyone off for this reason. No pregancy
Regulated periods- used to bleed for 7 days which were not regular and was extremely heavy, I now bleed for 4 days, maybe 5 and am so much lighter as well as starting like clockwork, three days after my last pill.
Easy to take and no side effects experienced. None, unless my bleeding is related but as i've taken this for so long and it's only been my last two cycles that have been effected I am not sure that the pill is to blame. Would recommend, am suprised at the number of people who don't get along with it but everyones body is different. For me, the perfect option.

I have been taking microgynon 30 since i was 18, i had a 3 or 4 month break from it when i was 20 and then went back on it with no problems at all. I am now 25. I can safely say i have never had any problems with it apart from weight gain. Would recommend it to any girls worrying about which pill to take. Never been pregnant

and my mother had breast cancer, so i'm not exactly sure how long i should stick with Mycrogynon I do recommend it, however, I think that for the people who've had bad experiences, ''the pill'' is specific to every person and if it causes undesirable effects, then they should switch to another-no one should suffer just for ''the pill.'' but for me, Microgynon has been nothing but protective and easy.

i first got on 'the pill' during a good relationship with my ex-boyfriend. i went to the clinic with my friend as she needed to get her new supply, so i thought that i may aswell get the pill aswell as i was in a sexually active relationship. however we shortly split up about a month later. yet i am still on the pill as it has sorted my periods out really well, so therefore i am not heavy anymore, nor am i on for as long.

Well, first I would like to thanks everybody for their feedbacks and what they are thinking about the Microgynon 30.
I have been on the Micr 30 for about 2 and half year.I am right now 23, I haven't tried any other pills before so its my first pill what I ever tried.
First it seemd to me really good and I trusted it and still trust Microgynon 30 but after those feedbacks I found out that somethng is really wrong...

Nearly everyday I have got such a headache that I even can not move. I thought that something is wrong with my head or..something could be really wrong, but after reading this feedbacks I think the time is to change the pill.
Also, i had a break from Microgynon 30 after using it 1 year, I wanted a break and didn't use any other contraceptive pills, and then decided that I go back to Microgynon 30. But when I get back to pills again, it was the worst feeling and worst day in my life. I took the 1 pill again after 6 month break, and after 10 hours I get soo sick that I even vomited. I dont know how everybody else, but it was bad experiance. I felt better, thnaks God, after taking the 2nd pill...
Secondly, I use to be really calm and laied back person who's never agressive, but I am changed a lot and I am sooo sorry about my bf who thinks maybe I am freak, agressive, moody and crazy woman.
But i find my self really, really tired everyday, agressive (hmmm...never in my life I haven't been agressive, but even small things make me angry and sometimes if I argue with my bf I could be really agressive and moody, and when I calm down then I think....who I am??? Now I think maybe I am the reason, why we argue?!)
Anyway, I never thought the problem could be the pill, and always thought it is my new personality, till now...
I would like to get off from Microgynon 30 as soon as I finish my pack and want to try something else. Haven't become pregnant

I have been taking the microgynon 30 for 6 months now. The first 3 months I gained a stone and a half and my skin became quite spotty, sometimes I was so bloated I looked pregnant.

It has settled down in the past 2 months, now my skin is clear and I have gained no more weight but I also have found it very hard to shift the extra weight I have put on, I do find before my period I still get very bloated. Very light periods and no more period pains

I was advised by my doctor to take microgynon 30 to help relief the symptomps of PMS. I have been taking it for 3 weeks and feel like it has changed my persoanallity!!!

I have been taking Microgynon 30 since I was 17years old. I am now 30. (I know should not really stay on the pill for this long but better than having an unwanted baby) Have just stopped taking it as my Husband and I are and planning to start a family. Everybody is different but I have never had a real problem with taking Microgynon. The worst is probably not having perfect skin but that is not all to do with the pill I think that is life style as well.
Before going onto the pill I had very painful periods and used to go through at least two packets of pain killers throughout my periods. When starting the pill that all stopped apart from a bit of back pain which was far better than what I used to get before....

i started taking the pill on the first day of my period as instructed. Usually my peroid stops after four or five days 10 days later i am still having a period.

I've been on the pill for around 18 months now. When i first took it i actually got morning sickness and woke up early to throw up 3 days in a row. However this hasn't happened since.

i am 19 and started taking the pill about a year and a half ago after a pregancy scare during my A-levels. i always had regular periods, with no pain at all. even on the pill my periods where still the same as always untill recently, now they are really light and its worrying me slightly. has this happened to anyone else?
i never thought that i had any problems with my pill, untill reading these reviews, i do suffer from mood swings and the occasional crying fit but i just put it down to it being my personality.

Hello everyone, I'm really writing this to help everyone who's just started taking the microgynon 30. I've always been sceptical of the pill - scares me how a tiny pill completely runs your brain, how you feel, your appetite, and even your fertility.

Most people start off on Microgynon 30 - the reason mainly being because it is used by the majority of women across the world.

The effects that the pill can have do vary amongst people. I strongly believe that when you start taking the pill you have to be so strong minded in the first 2 months. If you are strong, eat sensibily, exercise you won't put on weight.... Admitedily i was very angry when i start taking the pill, because 2 weeks in i gained 2kg.... but when i look back it was because i ate sooo much more than i usually did. I just couldnt help it. Some of it was also water weight. I went to the doctor and wanted to change... but as he said you will probably get this at the start of any pill. Your body has to give it time to get used to it... and by the end of the first pack 4 weeks i felt back to my normal self, i lost the 2kg because i started eating back to i did before... did the same amount as exercise as before. If you find yourself constantly eating and its unsual!! (like me) You HAVE to stop the habit... get back to how you were eating before, and the cravings will disapear after a few weeks. Better to just gain water and piss it out, than gain loads of fat and have to get rid of it after

I must admit, i still get bloated (water retention) more than i ever have done, and i hear it should reduce over time. In the second week of taking it i got bad spots!! I've never had spots before in my life! but they have completely cleared up and my skin is amazing.

You've got to give it a try... your body has to get used to it.. the first month may be tricky at times, but if you change after a month, you may get the same with the next, and so on... Give it 2 months. After the first 3 weeks your body gets used to the level of hormones.

I have been on Microgynon 30 for about 4 months now. I used to take it when i was 16 but decided to go on Cilest, recently (now 22 years old) my doctor has put me back onto Microgynon and i have noticed i am becoming very irritable and crabby with my boyfriend and family. This pill really weren't for me, it messed with my emotions FAR too much and it made me really miserable. To be honest I didn't even realise it was the pill until my friend mentioned it. I am always worrying about things that could happen to me, which i never used to do. I have also got really snappy at my parents and friends. I was always been so happy and laid back- since taking this pill i have gradually turned into an emotional wreck. I have lost all my self esteem and feel so down with no enthusiasm to do anything. I have not gained weight but have terrible skin- which i never encountered before taking this, even as a teenager.
Ive just finished a pack and I am not going to take it anymore. It will be interesting to see if I feel like myself again once this medication is out my system.If i cud give any good advice it wud be that if u feel down, stop taking it! Its took me a while to realise this was the cause. did not fall pregnant spot breakouts- constantly

I've been on Microgynon 30 for too many years to remember, but in the last 6 months I have developed severe dryness and blistering around my eyes, it looks similar to ecxema! I've been seeing a nutritionalist as I have IBS as well, and she thinks it could be linked. The symptomes did improve slightly when I was on my last break week but have now come back with avengence!!! I also have a recuring rash at the top of my back that isn't acne. Has anybody else suffered any similar skin reactions. No pregnancy

Low sex drive Until reading the reviews, I didn't put the majority of my symptons down the the pill, but it would seem to be the common link.

I took Microgynon for about 7 years. It was prescribed to me by the family planning doctor at my local health centre. I used it throughout my teens, until I was about 22. I had a break for a few months when I was about 19, and tried taking it again for a couple of weeks about 2 years ago. I started having symptoms of depression when I was about 16, but did not initially link this to taking the pill. Did not become pregnant Severe Depression/anxiety, 'numbness', having suicidal thoughts
Severe and unpredicatable mood swings, feelings like a zombie/like I was posessed!
Bursting into tears regularly and with little provocation
Being irrational and argumentative with friends and boyfriends, needy, with low self-esteem
Headaches most of the time
General feeling of lethargy/tiredness

Within 14 days of stopping Microgynon 30, ALL of these symptoms disappeared. I am now 25 and have been taking the hormonal contraceptive pill Yasmin for around 18 months with only very mild side effects (slight weight gain, mild moodiness for a couple of days before period - NOTHING like the hell I was experiencing before). If you're taking Microgynon 30 and experiencing any of the above symptoms, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that they might actually be side effects of the pill. Having said that, don't just assume the symoptoms ARE related to the pill - I'd still seek advice from your GP about depression and possible treatments available to you.

Ultimately though, if you're on Microgynon 30 and feeling low, try using a different contraceptive pill or a different method of contraception, before you take any other kind of medication such as anti-depressants, to mask your symptoms.

In hindsight, I would have stayed well clear of this awful drug.

I've been taking Microgynon for about 7 months now and have mixed feelings about it. Its mostly good though! - I can control my periods e.g. take 2 packs back to back
- My skin looks better and only really break out around the time of my perios on my face and my back has totally cleared up
- My boobs have gone up a cup size, yay!
- No pregnancy - Feel tired alot
- I get a lot of headaches
- I've put on about a stone in weight (probably why my boobs have grown!)
- I snap easily
- I still get bad perios pains Give it a go. It does have it upsides!

I've been on Microgynon since I was 17, now at 21 I feel there has been changes and I have become a little more emotional, moody and suffer from thrush.

After reading peoples comments I think that I may come off this pill as I don't like the sound of it 'being the cheapest' and thats the reason why doctors prescribe it. Regular Periods

Some weight gain I'm going to use it for the next 6 months as thats how many packets I have to last me! But after than I will enquire about other kinds.

Had been on this for over a year, noticed a few stomach cramps at first but nothing major and they disappeared after a few months. After over 6 months of taking it I noticed I had put on weight, which was to do with my lifestyle but now after a year Ive put on 1 and a half stone & I couldn't shift the weight at all, which is so depressing coz ive improved my lifestyle and I used2 lose weight so easily. Made my boobs grow a BIT which is ok coz they're really small but made them feel more painful too. KILLED my sex-drive. Makes it really hard to stay lubricated and makes me feel disinterested in sex. However, I REALLY like babies now and had dreams about getting pregnant. I hated kids before. Got rid of PMS but I used to like how horny I got before my period, now that's a distant memory..Have come off as I'm sick of being fat and emotionally dead. Much better lubrication. At the age of 25 I have now been on this pill for 8 Years and to be honest thought i was happy with it. Over the past couple of Years I have noticed that my once non existent migraines (which were heriditary) have reappeared and my sex drive is at an all time low! In addition to this sometimes I feel so depressed I don't know how to shake it off!

I reviewed these pills on the 17th september and was going to stop taking them, but with my doctors advice, because i had only been taking them for 5 days i stuck it out and now im here to do another. Im no longer an emotional wreck.Also i have'nt had my ovulating pain yet (im just hoping that taking this pill has made it lessen) well at the beginning when i was having a period i had longer bleeding and backache, cramps heavy bleeding. Im waiting to see what my next period is like before i decide whether to stop taking these pills if i have any of those in the bad points part above then i will defo stop taking these.

Apparently the doctors but you on this pill because it's the cheapest one. After reading the other reviews on the website I'm definately going to change to a different pill. Constantly crying and feeling sad is seriously affecting my everyday life.

I have been taking this pill for nearly 9 months now, and although it has stopped me from getting pregnant I have found that I have become an emotional wreck! I was put on this pill last year, I work in mental health and I was told by my manager to go and get anti-depressants from my doctor, things really were that bad.

I started crying all the time, I was verbally aggressive and argumentative all the time, at home I almost ended up in hospital after my boyfriend defended himself from a physical attack (he only used my momentum to send me flying).

In the end I was transferred to another unit at work and once I stopped the pill became myself again. None Serious mood and personality change.
It's the worst pill I've ever taken over 15 years of using contraceptive pills.

iv been taking microgynon for the last 3 months. it hasnt given me anyside affects but i do think iv put on a bit of weight. but i can do something about that so im not too worried. i think it has different side effects for every1 so i dont you should be put off of any different contraceptive pills if this one hasnt worked for you.as i said i havent had any side effects. and its sorted out my irregular periods. regular periods

Ive been taking this pill for 3 weeks now and i am going to the doctors to change to a different one. it makes me turn evil every evening, im horrible to everyone who comes into contact with me, i shout at my boyfriend and get angry with my baby when she cries. its also give me red marks at the top of my arms. protects from pregnancy really bad mood swings!

I'm 18, was on microgynon for 3-4 months but was told to stop because I started suffering from migraines. I also cried at the slightest thing and had worse mood swings than normal. I am now on cerazette and still get migraines - looks as if it was just a coincidence that they started when I was on the pill. My doctor told me to stay on POP though because oestrogen pills in migraine sufferers can increase risk of strokes!
Several of my friends around my age have had a really bad time with microgynon, mood swings, crying, vomiting, even depression. I think the oestrogen level is too high for people whose bodies are still changing. regular periods and not pregnant.... that's about it.
oh, and no weight gain. may have started my migraines (seriously bad)
feeling upset and moody pretty much constantly. would NOT recommend this to anyone, particularly not young people. Cerazette doesn't give me any other side effects (still getting migraines anyway) but my periods have stopped. Convenient (ish) but I panicked to start with and it feels strange not to have them.

OH and all pills have pretty much the same risks and benefits for and against cancer, microgynon is no worse than the rest.

My doctor gave me microgynon as my first contraceptive pill (I've been told they give microgynon out as it is the cheapest). This pill has put me off going on any other! Alot of people say all the symptoms are just in your head but, i know how i felt before i went on this pill and just how diffrent i felt whilst taking it! No pregnancy! Weight Gain...Not eating or doing anything diffrently though!?!?
