Mercilon Contraceptive Pill

I started Mercilon a year ago for irregular period (I was 20). I must say the results were great. In the first few months, it's true I had some headaches, but they went away once my body got used to the pill. From here only benefits. Regular, lighter, shorter period. I finally have some control over this and don't have to go half a month everyday with the thought that it can happen at any moment. Also all my problems with oily skin and hair went away. No more acne too. I can actually say right now, cause it's also winter I'm using products for dry skin and hair which is something I started thinking I'll hardly ever get to. Also to mention I did not gain weight. My boobs might be a bit bigger but that's not really noticable (I didn't want them bigger anyway, really) - regular, lighter periods
- no more oily hair and skin
- no more acne
- no weight gain
- no more cramps during periods
- no more mood changes before my periods (--this used to be a huge problem, especially if my period delayed for more than 10 days, I was awful, I would yell and be very very angry)
- after about 6-7 months of taking Mercilon I also didn't have sensitive boobs before my periods -- practically no PMS left
- period comes about 4 days after I stop taking the pill at about the same time as I usually take the pill -- what do you want more exact than that?
- after 9 months of use I met my actual boyfriend so Mercilon finally became contraception method too..a great one I can say, no pregnancy scares so far - none that I can think of. Ok, maybe a few stomach aches, but I've had problems with my stomach before I started taking the pill. The doctor told me the pill shouldn't damage my stomach and the discomfort I feel every now and then could have multiple causes anyway, so it's not relevant. I'd recommend it to anyone. Especially if you have irregular periods like I used to and you want some control over that part of your life.

I started Mercilon too years ago. The main reason was contraception. I had got my first and so far only boyfriend. I would like too start on the pill before sex was an option. So my GP put me on the mercilon. In the start i had some braketroguh bleedings but no i have no sideeffect. It is no problem sciping my period with starting on a new active pill and forget the placeboes. I started then i was 14years old. Higher sex drive

ive been on mercilon for the past 4months and things were really good at first, no side affects what so ever. i gained a little bit of weight as my appitite had increased. 2months into using mercilon, about a week before my period i became very very emotional, paranoid and cry about everything. i felt so helpless and very depressed!! soft skin

My first time on the pill ever a few years ago was using Dianette. It made me really ill and it really scared me from taking the pill again. Last week I was put on Mercilon and, despite being really nervous of getting ill, it has been fine. I experienced no pains, no nausea or anything. It hasn't been long enough to affect my mood, if it will, but so far so good.
Ive been taking it straight after eating my evening meal as Ive heard some people get ill if taking the pill on an empty stomach. No nausea

im using Mercillon for 5 months now and the good thing i dont feel any chest pain anymore and i havent experience complicated breathing unlike any other pills that ive tried. But the big problem is after 3months of using i have noticed i Really Gained weight so much!.... My body is just an average before even when i eat much i dont getting bigger as i am right now.... just started this pill as i was on Ovenette and found myseld turning into a emotional wreck. so i tried this one and so far so good. No side effects as yet. But notice my boobs have grown, and i lost some weight recently and normally my boobs go down, but some how they have stayed, what a cheap boob job hey!!! If your Single this is for you

im 38 yeras old and have had problems with every other type of pill, been taking mercilon for a week now but have noticed that i get a tingling in bothe little fingers a short while after i take it but it dissaperars later? otherwise so far so good no headaches or mood swings none as yet so far so good but am a little confused as to why the tingling in fingers happens

I, initially, was put on Mercilon in order to help with hormonal imbalance which had me being incredibly emotional (a few weeks later I met my former fiancee so it then also became contraception) - I was 20, at the time and, somehow, managed to struggle through a year of taking this pill. - No pregnancy scares at all (and I've had the misfortune of pregnancy whilst using condoms, so this was a huge positive)

- Regular periods

- Slightly bigger boobs - Initially this pill did manage to override my hormonal problems, but within about Three months I had actually become about 100 times worse. I would cry at absolutely anything, I was constantly snapping at my boyfriend (starting arguments just because I was so angry I needed to argue) etc.
I actually SPLIT UP with my boyfriend at one point because I became so emotionally screwed up... granted we got back together once I stopped taking the pill (and then I left him for real reasons, but I am 100% sure that it was the pill that ruined things the first time) - I have suffered from depression since the age of 10, so I really can normally cope with these things, but this pill made me feel like I was going compeltely insane.

- I have suffered from migranes since the age of 9, which is why I was actually put on mercilon rather than any other combined pill. During the year that I was on the pill I started suffering with migranes which were specified to the base of my skull, as the year progressed they became worse, and more frequent- I was being violently sick and my fiancee became more of a nursemaid than anything else, I either always had a migrane or was recovering from one. These migranes stopped directly after I stopped taking Mercilon.

- Complete, 100%, loss of libido. My former fiancee used to complain about this and I'd shrug it off until I realised it had actually been months.

- No weight gain, but I did start to develop some cellulite, something which I had previously never had - I am a size 6/8 and exercise regularly, eat well etc etc. As far as I can tell, the problems I have encountered with Mercilon can be encountered with any other pill, if it's one that your body is not compatable with. Give it a go, but if you start to think that you could be suffering with complications then keep in mind that they can be caused by the pill... If I had realised that my problems were related to the pill sooner then the year of hell I went through would've been much shorter.

I am starting a new pill soon, after having been off the pill for well over a year - I've warned my boyfriend of the potential side effects and have asked him to be my 'sanity' if he thinks I am starting to display anything which is detrimental to myself or to us as a couple, he can tell me and I can see if it's something that I can work on.

iam 29 ben on mercilon for 1yr..god ave turned in to th devil..this pill is my last resort had so many that just dont agree with me, going back after this last pack to see what a can do next! the weight gain is just unreal a look 3m pregas!!! boobs are huge(not a bad thing ha ha ) really dont like this pill at all. big boobs ha ha !!

I am 37 and was on Mercilon for 8 years. Before that, I was a nice person lol. I was advised by a family planning counselor and a homeopath/counselor to get off Mercilon because of the effects it seemed to be having on me. It was only when my boyfriend said "you have got to stop crying and getting so angry so easily" (and my mum and 2 work colleagues on separate occasions!) that I really thought I better explore every avenue to get to the bottom of it. - No pregnancy
- Little weight gain
- No effect on libido (though mine is VERY healthy and many other women seem to have lost interest in sex since being on it so maybe I will become a nymphomaniac now I have taken myself off it??) - Physical - Sore boobs leading up to period. Few days before period - cramped, bloated, grumpy. Very slight weight gain, not worth mentioning.
- Emotional - Normally funny and carefree, I became serious and completely devoid of likeable qualities 90% of the time. I would cry and get angry at the tiniest little thing at work/home, even at my family birthday dinner where I should have been really happy??!

Run for the hills! I'd rather be a nun or get pregnant than torture my loved ones and myself with the side effects of this drug. It's sad that doctors prescribe anti depressants etc when treating women with emotional issues without first checking the pill they are on - wake up doc, she may just need a pill change. You try taking hormones and being a Stepford wife and good luck to you!! I report that I am so much happier now and more balanced now I've gone off it. I have not gotten angry or cried for 3 weeks - bring on the good times and what a relief.

Hi, I am 20 nearlly 21 and I have been on Mercilon for coming up to 5 years now, I have had has very few problems whilst being on this pill. I went on it to start for painful and heavy periods, which disappeared striaght away and lighter periods started. I do not suffer from mood swings or turn into witch. I often have started packets at different times and cut lengths of time in my cycle (i.e. took only 16 of 21 pills) and have never had a pregancy scare. Would recommend this pill to many women. Although I have had a small amount of weight gain, it had little effect, but this could be due to many other factors and I was very small before going on the pill. - lighter periods (only 2-3)
- no period pains
- no need for condoms
- bigger boobs (only slightly) - slight increase in cravings

would recommened to anyone, and never had a single problem with this pill

towards the end of my third month/pack... lighter periods, no condoms!
no change in mood i think, although possibly more tearful when tired or stressed anyway
no real weight gain, though stomach is never really flat anymore... spots! had some spots before on/off but they are now constant especially on my chin which is now pretty much a warzone.
also had breakthrough bleeding for the whole first month
i also bleed exactly 5 days before my 7-day break and am not sure why! am changing to marvelon next month in the hope that the dreaded acne will leave me!

i'm 16 and am just starting my second pack of mercilon. i never had particularly bad periods and the pill was more for contrception than for making my periods lighter/less painful. don't have to use condoms (i hate them!)

i get a bit more emotional before the start of my periods than i did before - nothing major, just a bit more tearful and stressed.
i get a bit paranoid having sex without a condom. Like i'm unprotected... that's just me though =) i'm happy with mercilon so far. i would say the only problem is getting more emotional before my period but the GP said this would get less when i'd been taking the pill for longer.

I'm 17 and coming towards end of first packet of mercilon. I was previously on femodette, which tbh was a nightmare, vomiting migranes, moody, no sex drive etc.
But with mercilon i have had none the those proplems and i feel practically fine. no pregnancy
head aches not as bad as previous pill, and went away after a week or so

its been 15 years since me and the mrs have been together and once a month life was unbearable due to her mood swings and pure hatred towards me...ive recently put it down to mercilon and she has agreed to come off it and to use condoms which i would prefer than living with the devil herself,hopefuly now shes off it we can get our life back on track ,will let you know how we get on not getting pregnant but with the sex drive of a giant panda she was not going to was she no sex drive and living with genghis khan once a month aint pretty , just wished i had realised it was mercilon years ago never again

I am 17, and I've been on the Mercilon Pill for 4 months now, due to my heavy and very painful periods. My pain use to last for two days non-stop and it felt very unbearable, it use to prevent me from going to school atleast two/three days a every month. So my GP adviced my to try this Pill. NO period pain!! - I am so thankful

At the start - I had spotting for a month non-stop which annoyed me especially since I was on holiday. Panty liners became my friends.

Slight tiredness - seeking for afternoon naps, although it could be due to going to bed late. I recommend this Pill to any female that suffers with extreme period pain and a heavy cycle, as it has relieved me from my monthly burden. Overall, I think this is a very good pill, but I guess it depends on the person as every female is different

Been on Mercilon pill for a year now. I used to have heavy periods, and pains would last 3 days and be unbearable. I couldn't walk for at least 2 days and would not leave my bed. I have always suffered PMS, this has not changed. Haven't gotten pregnant.
Lighter periods last 4-5 days.
Little to no period pains.
Period starts within 2 days of stopping the pill, like clockwork.
I skipped a period one when I went on holiday by continuing onto the next pack, no problems.
I sometimes forget to take pill at same time every day, but haven't had a problem, as long as I take it as soon as I remember.
In the beginning I would get bad migranes, but they stopped once my body got used to it.
I feel bloated alot.
I haven't gained weight, but feel / look heavier, especially around my torso. I think this is due to water retention, not sure if its caused by the pill.
Overall, happy with Mercilon. Would advise it to anyone with heavy periods / bad period pains.

After having taken quite a few pills and having side effects on all of them i have been put on this one as a last resort No pregnancy *Breasts are sore permanently - i cant even begin to describe how uncomfortable i am ALL the time! i have trouble walking up and down stairs, laying on my side in bed and hugging anyone. This also makes having sex quite uncomfortable sometimes.
*My hair has become much greasier than it has ever been but unsure whether this is due to mercilon or not
*Feeling nausous quite a lot would not recommend this pill at all , i am in constant pain and am running my current pack to the end before finishing for good!

I am 24, first started on Mercilon at 18, so I was on it for about 6 years. I started vomiting at night each time I started a new packet, and I thought it had something to do with Mercilon and the way my body reacted to it after such a long time...anyway, I am now on Yasminelle (my first month) but let me share my experience with Mercilon. Didnt get pregnant, YAY! so it really does the job. Also, when I first started I had really bad acne and just overall very spotty, problematic skin. After about a month, my skin cleared out, it was like a miracle for me (cause I tried so many treatments to treat my acne and nothing worked). Mercilon really solved that problem, and i will be forever greatful!
Another good point is that I didnt gain weight- at least I dont think so. I am about 3kg heavier than when I started (6 yrs ago) but I dont think it has anything to do with Mercilon.
The vomiting ---- was NOT due to Mercilon (my Dr. told me it was because i was taking my tablets late at night (around midnight) and it was due to the change of hormones in my body every month, so it would happen with any other pill as well.... I guess it makes sense, when I first started I took the pill at around 7-8-9 pm but lately maybe around midnight or so- right before I went to sleep.... Not a good idea.
No menstural pains or bloating The first few months- Really REALLY bad migranes... but they went away after a few months... or maybe I just got used to having them :)
Loss of Libido - oh my gosh... dont get me started on this. I practically have no sex life because of this pill.... I blame it on the pill :)
+ my boyfriend always guessed when my period was approaching - apparently I became an evil, mean, irritated, moody, unbearable B---H!!!! ... haha But honestly, I never realised I was any different than the normal smily, happy and loving person that I thought I was! It did the job, and I loved the packaging. I really thought it was a good pill, but hey, how can I compare if I never used anything else? I am now on my first pack of Yasminelle, so far no changes or anything better or worse compared to Mercilon. I will see in the next few months.

Thought this would be a nice pill to take as it was one of the lowest dose ones, however i managed to conceive my first month, even though i took every pill at the same time everyday, and i know if u r heavier its less effective but i am quite petite at only 7 n a half stone. Im sure there wouldve been gd points if i hadnt gotten pregnant so quickly! Got Pregnant. Had other symptoms such as dizziness and nausea but dont kno if they wer simply pregnancy symptoms. If ur doctor says u r quite light and so therefore can hav a low dose pill, think again!

I've been on mercilon for two weeks. i changed because microgynon made me soooo moody it almost ruined my relationship. it was wierd really seeing as before i stopped microgynon the first time id been on it for 8 months and had no problems, i started it again after a year off it and it turned me into a psycho 70 year old..i was always exhausted, moody and had no libido whatsoever. anyway i was told to start the pack while i was already half way through a pack of microgynon which i really dont think was a good idea. No pregnancy

My proper period lasted 2 days but i keep getting small bleeds out of the blue that last for a few minutes which is really embarrassing when your out and about. These side effects could be made worse by the microgynon that is still in my body *the nurse said it could take a few weeks to fully come out* I dont know how but for some reason i remember to take this pill more than the microgynon. I'm going to give it more of a chance but if this sickness doesn't go away after this packet i think i'll call it quits. i feel pregnant and the anxiety of waiting for my period isnt something you should feel on BCP. each pill is different for everyone and you shouldn't dismiss one until you find out whether or not it's right for you. good luck to everyone :)

I Have Been On Mercilon For Almost A Month And I Am Just About To Start My First 7 Day Break (4 Pills Away). I Havent Had Any Problems With Mercilon Atall So Far, Which Is Great :]. I Will Write Another Review After My First 7 Day Break When I Start My Secound Pack.

I started taking mercilon about 9 months ago after being on numerous other pills which did not agree with me, severe migranes being the most common. The doctor said this would be the last pill i could go on before thinking about other forms of contraception. no pregnancies! Weight gain- 1 and a half stone- i cannot shift it and ive been going to the gym 4 times a week.

Always hungry, cant stop eating sweets, chocolate anything thats in the fridge! I have just stopped taking mercilon last friday and feel much better, i am less bloated although i have had a few migranes, i would not reccomend this pill even as a lost resort! Going to give my body a break and might consider having the implant at later date but for now using condoms.

I'm just new in mercilon and had it for only a month now. only 5 days from now i'll be finished with my first pack. =)

so far, its good. i haven't tried any other so can't compare it as of the moment. i hope this will work for me. i keep on researching for the information about mercilon and other pills but i'm not getting accurate answers, may be its because of the reason that it varies for different women.

my doctor gave it to me not because of its obvious reason. i was prescribed by OC because i have PCOS(policystic ovarian syndrome) and i need to do something about it. =)

legs are swelling up a bit but not much. it could be due to high heels and stress. so far so good. I'm just thinking if i'll choose to have a sexy body than bearing the other side effects i'm reading with other reviews. so far its perfect! weight gain is my only problem. =)

I have been on 4 different pills in the last year as i have been having nearly consistant light bleeding throughout the month. As a result i have been put on mercilon which i have been told is my last resort! No weight gain at all..and so far no break through bleeding, but it is only my second packet.

too soon to see the real effect it has on my periods..the last one was fine tho. permanently errect nipples which is incredably uncomfortable and really painful.
i wouldnt say mood swings but when agrivated my patince decreases and can turn into a she devil!
makes me feel really quite faint at points during the same..zapping my energy.
the main syptoms that i can see for me are sore nipples and a feeling of faintness also the she devil aspect. I have been told that this is the last pill that i can try as i have gone through most of them. to be honest i would not be sad if this one didnt work and i had to find an alternate form of contraception as i find the pill inconveniant and unpredictable.

It's been a while since I was on Mercilon, so can't really remember how my periods were as such (probably average if forgettable), but I do remember the terrible mood swings. I fell to pieces at the slightest negative comment, was snappy, irritable and generally hateful. My mum couldn't wait to get me off it lol. This has been the only contraceptive pill that has made me like this (and i've been on 7 different ones). > Normal periods (I think)

I switched from Microgynon to Mercilon and never looked back. My best friend and I are both on this pill and are really impressed by it.

The first 3/4 days I had some headaches and felt sick, I thought I was going to hate this pill but I soon settled into it.

I feel completely normal, no affects on my personality/no mood swings. (my other pill turned me into a PSYCHO!)

When I first began to take the pill, I was started on Micro...sp?....but I was suffering from severe headaches and stomach cramps so went to the doctor for a change. I was then given femodene which I was on for nearly a year but then I started having fainting spells which was put down to both this and anemia but it was changed regardless. I got started on Mercilon last September. No pregnancy.
I actually lose my appetite during my period, so weight loss, which can also be considered a bad thing....

I was put on Mercilon last September after the pill I was previously on caused me to faint. That pill was Femodene. I had been on it for almost a year but then i started having some painful side effects and my pill was changed. The only good point seems to be that I have no migraines or stomach cramps through my 21 day pill taking. No fainting (yeh!) I 'bleed' for almost 6 days, although I'm sure each female is different. Very heavy to, but again, every female is different. I still suffer from quite severe stomach cramps the first two days of my period. I tend to suffer severe mood swings. I'll tolerate it for the time being, only because my doctor told me if this pill doesn't work I have to think of alternative means of contraception.

Got put on to Mercilon last Jan as Marina coil was causing severe abdominal pains. Dont think i've tried this one before. 'Bleed' only lasts 2 days. No increase in boob size (DAMN!!) have put on weight which im having trouble to shift. apart from feeling so tired all the time, and the weight gain, it seems ok. Though i am having sweats (night & day) ocassionally, blood tests have ruled out Menopause & Thyroid problems, so not sure if these are side affects of it. (Would still like the boob increase though!!).

I was put onto Mercilon after taking a long break from being on the patch. The patch gave me migranes which I had never experienced befroe so The Family Planning Doctor suggested Mercilon as it was low in both progestogen and oestrogen. Big mistake for me taking it and have come off it after 13 days! Obviously each pill is different for each person and I personally have decided to stay away from the combined pill after what happened on Mercilon. -Bigger boobs (even in such a short space of time- my boyfriend was impressed!)

- continuous breakthrough bleeding (have only had one day of none!)
- the worst side effect was a disturbing tingling in my left arm the day before I stopped taking it which concerned me greatly as I know this is linked with the heart. My arm then alternated between getting weak , numb and tingly. This spread to my legs and then I collapsed from being so weak. I was very scared and have read up on this being a sign of a thrombatic event (i.e a blod clot of some sort leading to thrombosis if I am correct). I have not taken another pill and am now trying the mini pill instead. I did not want to take any risks. Because of the serious side effects I had, I would not recommend Mercilon. It has some benefits but for me personally the risks were to high especially being young, there was no way I was going to ride it out and see if it got better. Don't feel obliged to stay on any pill if it is not working for you. My doctor was very helpful and agreed I should not be on it.
Again every person is different but really make sure you read up on whatever your taking and if something doesn't feel right stop it immediately.

I was on mercilon for about 2 weeks, and I'm shocked at the rather good reviews its getting. Of the 2 weeks I was on it I was happy for about a day. After this I started having a mad breakdown. Everything was too much - if the dogs were barking I wanted to stab them, everynight I had nightmares that the world was going to end, and everyone was dying - not good!!!!I would scream at everyone about everything. Thank god I realised the cause before I was disowned by everyone, or committed murder.

I was on Microgynon for the first year of taking a contraceptive pill but this made me vomit regularly so i switched to Mercilon and have been on it for roughly 3-4 years now. Recently i had to take antibiotics and as a result stopped taking the pill and i noticed a difference in my mood swings and my weight, which almost immediately dropped. For this reason i am staying off pills for now, and getting a copper IUD fitted. Obviously I didn't get pregnant. It was a lot better than microgynon and didn't give me headaches or period pains. I had light periods, and my skin has consistently been clear but it usually is anyway so im not sure if this is a side effect of the pill. I gained weight and could not shift it. I felt bloated quite a lot of the time and found myself craving carbs. My boobs were tender throughout, not just at the beginning. in fact the tenderness got worse and my cup size shot up. Boobs were also quite veiny.
My period didn't always come on the same day of the pill free week, it would sometimes be 4-5 days into it. My libido suffered quite a bit too, but at the time i thought i'd just gone off sex.
I don't know whether there is an actual link between the pill and the raised risk of breast cancer but i was always aware of this as my mum had breast cancer and i feel especially at risk. It does it's job and it's a lot less harsh than other pills out there, and if you don't mind minor side effects such as a bit of weight gain and maybe some minor skin problems then this is perfect. However, i am going to try the copper IUD and don't think i will ever go back to pills.

I've not been on Mercilon very long, I'm only eight days into my second packet. I'm nearly eighteen and this is the first pill I've ever been on.
I started taking it for several reasons: apart from the obvious, I was getting terrible PMS two weeks ahead of my period (awful chin acne, stomach cramps, water retention etc). Erm, no period pain when actually on period. Chin acne has remained, rather than dying down between periods; refuse to weigh myself - but water retention is BAD and feeling hungry all the time; feelings of 'morning sickness' which lasts, well, pretty much all day; feel quite depressed and lethargic, too. I can't compare pills, seeing as I'm new to this. However I'm coming off it tomorrow. I can't believe I've gone from eating so little to eating so much, and I care too much for my physical health and appearance to continue with this (the foods I crave are sweet and unhealthy). Plus, plus, PLUS - my spotty chin makes me feel so bloody repulsive that I wrap my scarf so high around my face I'm breathing in the fumes of my own perfume.

Was on Microgynon for 3 years, began to notice migranes getting worse over 3rd year, so tried Mercilon, have been on it for 6 months now. um... no babies Gained 1 stone in 6 mths.
Headaches constantly, although not as painful as on Microgynon they last for 3-4 days!!
Never know when period will come during pill break - sometimes first day of the break, sometimes on the last, and sometimes they last 2 days, sometimes a week!! (on Microgynon and before the pill I was very regular)
Skin problems galore!!! Acne (never had before, even when teen!) also dry, itchy patches around cheeks and chin!
Problems wearing contact lenses - eyes so dry they fall out!!
I am now leaving the realms of hormonal contraceptives, hopefully forever!! Getting a copper IUD fitted on Monday. I am sure that everyones experiences are different though, and that some people will love this pill.... not for me though!!

I first tried Microgynon, that made me so sleepy and lacking in energy I was crashing out everyday and dog tired, my iron sunk right down, so I tried Mercilon instead. Periods are light, very short, no pain cramps, lovely. I have put on about 4 lbs and since we have a heart history in our family I have noticed with this pill my blood pressure went right up (normally it's fine) and I now have minor chest pains sometimes, other times it's fine, so I am going for a check up next week. good, but one seems to put on a bit of weight, for me not much, and watch your blood pressure.

i have been on so many differnt pills i wont begin to list, mercilon is my latest the obvious no babies weight, i hav put on a bout a stone in weight since starting it and nothing is shifting it, i feel more bloated wen to to hav my pill free week. miserable!
and for the last few months its messed my periods up immensely! they are now lsating nearly 2 weeks. time for me to try something different! i think the pills r now going out the window n need to start from scratch!

I started taking Microgynon 30 at 17 and had a long break from it, then went back on it when I started having sex again. That pill really affected my mood, i went psycho bitch during the time I was on it. I spoke to the nurse at Brook and gave me Mercilon. I have gained a little weight, but I'm working on it. Makes my periods less painful and lighter (but not all the time). I know exactly when I'll have my period next, and it's great not to worry about condoms, but just taking the pill when the alarm goes off. I have noticed that my libido has suffered a lot. I always look forward the free pill week because I know that I'll feel ok again and I have seen how different I feel towards sex. I have a hard time trying to get aroused. I think it does it job properly. prevent pregnancy. that's it. It's a bummer that it has an effect on my libido, because instead of liberating me to have sex without worrying about getting pregnant, I just don't want to have sex at all.

Started on Dianette but was taken off due to medical reasons and started taking mercilon. good pill never experienced any side effects however changed to cilest because friends recommended it. Worst decision ever! i have now gone back on mercilon as i found compared to other pills it works with little noticable drawbacks. obvious +'s successfull contraceptive, light periods, less cramps and control over period dates.

low hormone levels, therefore less mood swings! i found my skin was in considerably better condition when on mercilon than with other pills, although i still get the odd spot now and again (thats to be expected!). i found using mercilon back to back trouble free with no spotting and in gerneral favour it over both dianette and cilest. as far as pills go i dont have any bad points. some minor side effects experienced such as tenderness. i think mercilon is a good pill to be on, it provides a hormone balance as the moods swings arn't half as bad as on high hormone level pills. skin is clearer again compared to higher hormone pills. It is unnatural to pump hormones into your system daily so small side effects are to be expected after all.

I have been on yasmin for about 11 months but was causeing probelms with my uterus linning. switched to mercilon. and have been on it for about a week now no babies! better mood... but none seen as of yet! im swelling like a blue berry. been on it a week and my butt had doubled and i have thighs like j-lo. scale hasnt changed but i can see i have to whip out my old (larger) jeans. yasmin made me loose about 6kg over the time i was on it, but did turn into a psyco woman toward the end. altought a ''third generation'' pill i think its cr@p. perhaps another type of pill or maybe the patch?

I'm 23 and I have been on mercilon for nearly 8 years. This is the only pill I have ever been on. Very few cramps, periods only last 4 days and don't have many mood swings. The only bad thing I can say about mercilon is that recently I have become very hairy. Now this may not be down to the pill but I have heard that this can happen. Anyone else found this? I would recommend for anyone to use mercilon. Some people may gain more weight than others but I think this is the case with most pills.

Been on Mercilon for 7 months Have noticed slight imrovement in skin, no fear of getting pregnant (wedding coming up so definately a no no!), and gone up 2 cup sizes! Weight gain, am coming off because of this, am almost a stone heavier than when I started and no amount of exercise is shifting the weight! Have a stomach like I am 4 months pregnant by the time I am due to take my last couple of pills which in turn makes me feel very depressed and am in tears by this point!! Obviously works for some people, but wouldn't use if you want to stay the same weight or clothes size!!

i suffer from acne which i've controlled with antibiotics (which worked), since i was 13. went on this pill for contraception told it would clear my skin aswell and i couldn't take antibiotics any more. been on it for 4months now periods were shorter and lighter,cramps eased off,no babies!!! and i can skip periods. hasn't done anything for my skin(made it worse then ever) really bad moodswings and worst off all i gained a STONE!!!! on this pill. i would also go phycobitch on everyone out of nowhere which my friends hated. admittedly it is good contraception and helps control menstreul cycle but for me it made my skin worse and my moodswings were verrrrry bad. however i have some friends on this pill who say completely the opposite. maybe it affects people differently

Been on it for nearly 5 months now Regular period, less cramps, slightly less moodswings, no pregnancy, clearer skin (except when under a LOT of stress), can delay period if necessary (e.g. I did it over my GCSEs) About 1 stone gained in weight (14lb?), If I do get mood swings - they're BAD, No breast gain (boohoo), no spotting if you take the pill late. Actually, it's a pretty awesome pill. I've had no major side effects - I felt slightly nausious (spelling?) on the first day but it didn't last long. My weight gain isn't hugely noticable. I think it's a good pill to start with if you're new to the whole thing.
